| New Boat Prices
Just sold an older boat with an older engine. The effort to keep it in fishing condition (not to mention the $$$$) was wearing me out. Looking to get something brand new I won't have to dump (as much) money into. Can you guys give me an idea how much boat I'll be able to get for 45K around here. Also any input on what hulls/engines will be the lowest maintenance. Thanks

Ouch... not good to get new in this economy. The thing will depreciate once you take it off the lot. Lets put it this way. Not saying this is a good buy but one decent priced with everything new boat. 18'Force with twins. Boat 17,000 to 18,000. Motors installed twin 60 Yamaha HT.... 16,000-17,000. Wiring... add probably another 200 to 300. Trailer 5 g's. Electronics.. 2 g's. Thats close to 42g's with no rod holders, cab, anchor, safety eqpt. and so on. 21ft and up will cost you close to 10 to 15g's more.
Windward has the Sea Fux... sorry heard too much bad things about this boat from the mainlanders.... on the site for 35g's and under... but who wants that for that price?
Look for a good deal out there used. There are some.

| www.yachtworld.com buy on the mainland and eat the 6k or so in shipping from pasha freight or matson or young brothers. you'll get more boat and save money in the long run.

ill sell you my boat. Its a 22 foot power cat that was made in 2006. Its powered by twin Honda 90's that run excellent and are low maintenance and fuel efficient. The boat is fast, handles in rough water really well, and is set up for fishing. It has two huge fish boxes built into the deck (6'x3') and two live wells. Double shotgun holders, 4 Lee pole holders, Outriggers, fishfinder etc. The trailer is in good shape as is the boat. Everything is relatively new. PM me if you are interested. The boat was close to 70K when i bought it and outfitted it. I want to sell it for 40.

Yeah, I know the whole depreciation thing is a bummer. It does sound like maybe something used, but relatively late model might be the best choice for me. I tried to PM fish buster, not sure if it worked (shitty internet connection). Any good spots to check for used boats around here besides hawaii boats & yachts, craiglist, maui news/bulletin? Thanks for the advice guys.

I just purchased an 08 model(27ft), looked around Hi for 6 months, and decided I'd be better off purchasing ML. I bought on the Eastcoast, and paid about $6,500 in transportation costs (trucking to WC and ocean Freight). There is huge surplus on the Eastcoast right now and boats are going very cheep.

Most of the deals I saw were not even posted on the net. I drove and drove around my town and saw some that were out of this world. I was in the market a few years ago for a new boat and ended up with a beater boat. Only reason was because of the location I fished didn't cater to anything over 22ft. Ask friends or people at the harbor for people selling a newer used boat. As for your decision on what hulls or engine combo... make sure you rode it before in waters YOU fish before committing to a deal. Don't get it because I said it was good or he said its the best... ride it in your nice and rough weather and then purchase. My Glasspro is one hell of a wet boat but I fish where 22 to 25 foot radons and forces are playing in 15 to 25mph winds and rollers that come over the gunnels every minute. Then I bring it to Kona and the boat works just fine. I've seen a 24 Manta cat crest a wave and point straight up when the wind caught it and attempted to flip it over. Mono hulls don't do that. If you watched HGF its the same boat Capt. Clay Ching has. I wanted to buy the same boat from a guy but only to use in Kona.

One more local option is: Pacific Boats and Yachts > New and Used Boats - Hawaii on Kona. Although I have to agree with the above, best to buy lightly used. I have been looking for a while, and the longer I look, the cheaper things seem to get. Something else to consider is buying a new '08 or '07. The dealers have so much inventory, and these "old" new boats just get stuck on the lot taking up space while depreciating fast.
Not to thread jack....but does anyone run Venture CCs out there? I've never seen one at Honokohau, but thought because they're trailerable....

How about the 19' Glasspro with twin 50's that Windward Boats has on their site. Any opinions?

you would be better off to hire bernard madoff as your boat broker then to go there.
