The purple one has landed a few Dodo's, but no marlin. Actually, the only two that have had marlin strikes are the green/white and the soft head green (2nd & 3rd from the left). Both marlin were came unbuttened before I could leader them. Though, one was real close.

The gold and green with red stripe is in my opinion the #1 lure color from so.cal. to the east cape.

da purple softhead wide range is not the shiniest/prettiest lure but it sure does work I am always amazed how few people run it regularly on Oahu in Kona it is a staple on charter boats - it is also cheap and easily replaced compared with some of the ones that are shined up like jewels...

That lure has a reputation like no other and I am surprised they are not used more here as well.

I agree, even ahi like the bobby brown... I actually got my only tournament winning marlin (500+) and my biggest marlin (900+) on that same lure, only thing that changed was da leader.

There is at a minimum of 1 if not 2 in the spread at all times except when trolling for Ono on the ledge. Every year I get at least 1 ahi on it. It holds very well in rough water and looks every bit as good in calm. Don't leave the dock with out them!

Cheers
Pat

Remember when you get bit to gas it, and I mean f-n full trottle till the reel is singing, that will help them from coming unbuttened. I have seen to many guys back off the gas to early.
