| WORLD CLASS BLUE MARLIN
long time no post! I gave up the jet ski fishing with all of the new rules. SO, I've been doing my apprenticeship as a deckhand out of Lahaina. Today was crazy!! a 6 hour trip turned into a 8 hour. we started with a 12lb mahimahi, no big deal. 30 min later everything changed. short corner went off and the show started. after an hour and 45, we released a blue at 700plus. i know, but the customer strongly stated that he was not killing that fish. his trip would have been free but he didn't care. the fish was very healthy and looked really good. we leadered her up and actually removed the hooks. they were happy we weren't. we sucked it up and put the lines back out. on the trip in we spotted one coconut floating close and decided to make a pass with our spread. as we passed i told capt tim that i saw a marlin in the wake that swam right across without even looking twice. he made one more pass and wham!!!, double marlin hookup. long corner and stinger were gone. to make a long story short, one was released est. at 275plus. the other was tail wrapped and dead so after 2 hrs we got her in. at the dock she weighed 551.3. the guys still got a free trip. go figure. don't have pics right now, just got off the boat and got home. i will have pics and some video soon. this young capt just caught a 916lb blue like 3-4 weeks ago. |

Nice work. Nothing wrong with releasing a big female, all she's going to do is go and make more! Unreal that even so you got to catch three blues out of Lahaina. What boat are you crewing on?

Those were probably Kona marlin. They must have gotten lost in the VOG.

Congrats to Tim....he's a young legend down here in Texas. His adventurous life and success, fishing in Hawaii, is making us all proud. (Us older guys are re-living our youth through him...grin). Way to go Tim!!

Unreal that even so you got to catch three blues out of Lahaina?
What a dumb comment that is. We're catching granders over here!
The last year I fished all year, I captured 96 marlin (biggest 880 with a 639 the next day) and released 66 of them.
That would be good for any Kona boat!

Capt. Charlie Maui Sport Fishing Charters - Hawaii | Yeah, I'm A real dumbass. I forgot every day is a grander day, in Lahaina. Point is, three blues is a hell of a day, no matter what island, let alone what part of the world.
