Monday 3 hour run

Launched at 6;45 ran the ledge looking for ono no love in the early time, hit the point, metering choke bait, the boys were making bait but I was lazy so I just trolled, got a triple at 7;30, two koshibi and a kawakawa, killer for poke and sashimi.

Picked up a couple more 10 lb koshibis then went out to 200 fathoms and there was a small bird pile, bait started breaking water going nuts, bigger boils then 40 and 50 lbers starter jumping, had one on for 40 seconds then unbuttoned, bummer.

Worked the ledge back at low tided and picked up a nice 35lb ono.

Bithen morning, traded a couple koshibi for a couple bugs, my buddy jan has been killing the lobster, water has been epic.

Nice sunrise

lobster

kawakawa and koshibi

ono

Happy Holidays Aloha Skippajack

Are the Koshibis a type of tuna? Makerings on the back kinda look like a mack. Thanks for the report Skippa.

Nah koshibi are Yellow Fin Tuna the kawakawa are I don't know,I was born and raised in hawaii it's the only the name I know them by. Real red rich meat when you bury them in ice for a few hours, great sashimi and poke.

Right on Skipper !!
Yellow Fin Tuna, ONO, and Lobsters too !!!! Looks like Christmas came early this year !!
BTW "ko" is the Japanese term for little or child and "shibi" is the term Japanese term for Yellow Fin Tuna , thus small Yellow Fin Tuna ( a relative term of course : )
Killer report as always! Many thanks
PS : How deep did you have to go to get the lobster ? I heard they are hang out quite deep in the islands

Kawakawa is more of the mackerel family...kinda like a Bonito, really dark meat, heavy bloodlines.. that is a BIG Kawakawa model, they are usually small like 1-3# models and more of a nuisance on Oahu..
how you so cal guys treat skippies is how Hawaii people treat Kawakawa..

nice catch Skipajack!!!
bummer on the unbutton on the bigger model Yellow Fin Tuna..

kinda wierd thing is that guys from Big Island call under 100# Yellow Fin Tuna KoShibi, while on Oahu we call them ShibiKo.. no right or wrong when you're catching Ahi in DECEMBER!!!
