Evil E startled me as he crept out of the foliage, and said "I have a great idea. Let's go on a long ass, expensive fishing road trip, use your truck, and you can pick up all the expenses. That way it will be cheaper for me."
I though about it for a moment, and said "行きましょう”

We were going after the elusive 'Aori Squid'. We headed for the Sea of Japan, which is on the non Pacific Ocean side of the island nation of Japan. Right away, we hit some good scenery.

After a 3 1/2 hour drive to E's secret spot, we arrived to find someone on our shit. Guess it was not such a secret spot after all.

I took a pic up the coast, and heard a distant splash. Fish crashing on bait? No. Man falling off rock, and crashing into the water.

We moved to Spot Plan 'B', and got ready. Call me paranoid, but I had the feeling I was being watched.

Look at the hydraulic gear on the commercial rig.

Complete with orange crane, for heavy lifting.

It was then that I saw the sign.

It was telling me 'Throw the cast net. Throw the cast net'

So I did--
(My ass really isn't that fat--it is just a bad pic) Yeah right.

And once again hit a perfect circle of a toss.
No bananas here.

I would like to tell you all that I loaded up on these beautiful shrimp.

But the fact was that I loaded up on a netfull of these cool baby fugu (pufferfish)

Fugu is a delicacy here in Japan, but the liver is very poisonous. Many die each year from fugu sashimi. It is always when someone tries to prepare it by themselves. Itamaeyasan Fugu Chef's are licensed to do it properly, and I have never heard of anyone dying dead from Fugu prepared by a professional.

This is a commercial squid boat. Note the lights...

And note the cool auto-squid pullers...

We ended up with six Aori Squid, four Sagoshi (like a baby wahoo) and some dirty looks from a young couple that was having sex in their car near one of E's spots. I am not joking about this--Carsex (is what the Japanese call it) has become quite the rage here in Japan.
I have even seen two chicks getting busy in a rather small car parked at my fav bass spot at Lake Biwa.
So I have that going for me.

Maguro-Donburi is what was for lunch.
Until next time,
Peace out.
