| Rpt: Crowley, Kirman, Memorial weekend!
Decided to head up to Crowley with Ryan(fishmeister) his gf, my dad, and his friend. Got a late start on Friday and headed up to Crowley, and didnt leave the house till 2:30pm, which was not good! Hit a ton of traffic on the way up and didnt get up there till like 10. Plan was to fish Crowley Saturday and Monday, and fish Kirman on Sunday.
Saturday:
Got up around 5:30am and headed to Leighton Springs area. Got everything ready and we were in the water by 6:30. Headed towards Gator point and the floating head for 2 trout and 2 perch for 3 guys in about 2 hours of fishing. I didnt like those numbers so I decided to paddle all the way from there to the Owens area. Talk about a long paddle!!! Well got to the area with about 30 or so boats anchored up and started getting hit. Ended up getting 14 trout and 8 giant perch. The perch are huge and fat because they are in spawning and 3 times I saw schools of 10-20 perch swimming right below the surface. All trout were caught on the tan punk perch and brown matuka, and two of them were 18" and two 19", the rest were smaller. Decided to go in at around 12:30 because I was a bit tired and knew we were hiking to Kirman the next day. Got to the car to find out my dad and his friend caught nothing over at Leighton Springs and got out of the water at like 10. So the long paddle paid off.
Sunday:
Short report because I am going to make a post just for Kirman tomorrow with lots of pictures. Woke up at 4am and headed to Kirman. Got there at 5:30 and hiked the 3 miles in about an hour. Caught 16 brookies/cutthroats in about 5 hours of fishing.
Monday:
Went back to Crowley and got in the water about 7am. Fished till 10:30 for 8 trout, 4 perch, and 2 chub thingys for 4 people. All fish were caught on the tan punk perch and only one fish being 18" and the rest smaller.
Headed home at 11am and got lucky and didnt hit any traffic and got home at 4pm. Always a fun weekend up there, even though fishing wasnt great. Talked to a few people that were flyfishing Crowley in different areas and no one did great. The fish are really spread out, hugging the bottom, and the bite seems to start after 9:30am. Saw a few boats bait fishing that were pretty wide open, but all fly fishermen seemed to just be a slow pick. Hope to get back up there in a couple months when the water warms up a few degrees and the moss grows out, so the fish will bunch up in areas. Me or Ryan will add pictures tomorrow, and I will let Ryan tell you about his horrible weekend! lol
