This is a long one.
Shelly and I arrived home late last night from a trip that started a couple of weeks ago. In short we fished Pyramid lake, traveled to Henrys lake to help with spawning of yellowstone cutthroat at the lake spawning shed and then back to Pyramid to fish again.
Right off the bat I would like to thank a number of people.
Damon Keen, Hatchery manager at Henry's lake; for inviting us up there to get in his way while spawning yellowstone
cutthroat.
Tom Frew; Hatchery superintendent of Idaho's resident fish. And our roommate for a couple of days at the lake.
Corky Yokoe; For continueing support of our new business venture.
TLC; Greg you make the most beautiful nets, you are the man.
IFSteve; that pond rocks.
Bob Klug(Hronk); just for the fishing dope.
Mel-S;for showing us around the small town of Ashton
ChillyB;with the help on the boards
Ghetto Booty;good to finally meet you and thanks for the support
Blackwater Fluorocarbon;it seems to be outfishing the (dare I say?!?) Rio fluoroflex plus.
Remember this is strictly a business trip,

Uh-Huh.
March 21st-
A phone call from one of my close friends informs me that the fishing at Pyramid south nets is "on fire". I look at Shelly and she gives me the okay for us to leave early on this trip and get in on some of the hot action. This also puts us up at the lake at the same time as Getto, Chilly and Dan "the guide" Gomez along with some of our customers from BFH.
That phone call was received at 20:00 by 22:00 the truck is packed. Sweet.
March 22nd-
We leave SD at 04:00. Travel to Bishop is fast. We stop at Vons and pick up some bread and water for the next couple of days. Once we get to the lake we purchase our permits and set up camp at south nets. Have you ever heard the term "you should have been here yesterday"? Well, we did about five times that day. The fishing had just shut off, whatever, we aren't going home just because the fishing is slow. I scratched some fish from the ladder and set up the pontoons for the next day.
March 23rd-The morning started okay with a few fish from the ladder, our friends show up at 09:00, which by that time the fish have moved out to the break or drop-off and we all get into our pontoons or tubes and fish either beetles on the heavy sink-tips or our midge rigs. Both produce fish, but its slow for most of us. Shelly gets her biggest LCT this day that comes in at nine pounds. The spot in called the Hog Hole.
The decision is made to fish Pelican the next day.

March 24th-
Pelican starts off just like we left it. Fish from the ladders for Shelly and I(three or four each), then into the tubes to midge fish almost the rest of the day. On this day we had to move down to the rock wall south of the launch ramp to get some numbers.

At dark we had a good snap on some fish off the ladders. Broke my seven weight that night, but Corky sported me his eight weight Echo for the rest of the trip. Pyramid is rugged on the equipement!

Once we arrive back at camp, after dark, we try and cook dinner but to our dismay the wind is blowing, dirt is everywhere, so its into the tent with the colman, but the dirt is now comeing through the top vents of the tent. Shelly is not stoked. Somehow we power through a gritty chili, steak burritos dinner and jump in bed with the sleeping bags pulled over our heads.
For the last two days we had been fishing with a group of guys that were very new to the lake. They did wonderfully caught some of the biggest fish of their lives and had the weather to go along with it. Hope to see all of you next year.
March 25th-
No fishing this morning, shook the dirt of everything pack it up and head across the Nevada desert and mountians towards Idaho.
After a two hour wrong turn at Winnemucca and ending up in Oregon, because the driver doesn't like looking at road maps, we get up to Idaho Falls at 21:00. We stayed at the Motel 6 and showers were never so welcome.
March 26th-
On this day we met up with a good friend IFSteve had breakfast with him and he then took us fishing at his local private pond. To say the least the fishing we excellent. Fat 17 to 20 inch fish crushed small black woolly buggers or chromies fished four to six feet under a bobber. These fish were so healthy and fiesty, I can't wait till next year when they will be some brusiers in there. Thanks Steve.
That night instead of getting a hotel, Damon Keen the Hatchery manager, tells us to come on up and stay in the IFG(Idaho Fish and Game) cabin at the lake. Saves us some money and you wouldn't believe the view.
March 27th-
In the morning we head down to Ashton to do some laundry, and who shows up but Mel-S!! Here we thought Ashton was a big town. After getting back up to Henrys we see some our our friends that have come down from Dillon and Twin Bridges Montana. A restful day.
March 28th-
Damon has us sorting fish today. Males from females in preperation of tomorrows spawn. This is also where we get to sort the big hybrids from the cutthroats. The biggest we weigh in are a couple of ten pounders, but we see a good number of six to eight pound fish.

March 29th-
The big spawn day. In the morning Shelly and I get to sort through the female cutthroat and seperate the ripe ones from the green ones. About 09:30 people start to show up and in the end we have about dozen onlookers following the progress of the egg taking and fertilzation.
March 30th-
Travel day, back to Pyramid, this time without the detour up the 95. It still takes us eleven hours. No fishing for us on this day. Just getting the camp set up is enough,
March 31-
South nets. Slow fishing. I got my butt spanked in the early a.m. by the other guys on the ladders. Later that day we check out north nets and pelican for not much just alot of people. I think I ended this day with eight fish. Chilly B, Bendo Betty and son Nick showed last night and will be camped right next to us.
Along with some more friends trailer camping 100 yards down the other direction.
Great to meet you guys.
April 1st-
First cast of the day, first fish. Second cast, second fish. I had about a dozen in the first hour and a half of fishing, they were biting the ultra fast strip and WW's. The afternoon bite was better on the ladders and midges with my buddy Bob(Hronk), getting a fish that taped out at over 31" and weighed 10.5 pounds. Good job.
Shell got
another good one on this day. Way to go babe.
April 2nd-
Due to business we have to leave on this day, but not before I land about fifteen from the ladder on the midge rig. Good fishing. We get back late or early on the third, whichever way you see.
