Lake Wohlford Antics

So I go up to Lake Wohlford yesterday to take my toon out on a shake down. The lake is way low and it's a small lake to begin with. So I'm drifting along with the wind on the south shore. There is a guy in a bass boat drifting along behind me at a respectiful distance. Nice rotation. I had seen this private aluminum boat anchored about 75 yards off shore at the inlet end of the lake and he has been there for at least 45 minutes. Well all of a sudden he starts up his motor and cruises up right next to me and stops. He gets out a rod rigged with what looked like a CastMaster spoon. He starts casting all over the place and shouting "Don't cut me off or I'll cast on ya". By this time the bass boat catches up to where I am and we try to go around this guy. He then points out that "he has been working this whole area" which consisted of about 5 acres of lake and the entire inlet end of the lake. Now the guy starts to back up his boat to force us out even further and sucks his Cast Master rig right into his prop.

I hope he enjoyed the 30 or 40 minutes that he was trying to clear his porp as much as I enjoyed watching him!I'm still laughing at him.

He should take up another sport like hand granade juggling and while he is at it, look up the definition for sportsmanship.

And the best part was when he got back to the dock someone asked if he caught anything and he was skunked. I guess he really worked that spot. I was certainly impressed.

How did the toon perfom CD?
Everytime I go to Wohlford I see something funny or crazy.

Hey Grand Master Poohbah,

The toon worked pretty well. I got the balance dialed in with the new deep cycle that was 15 lbs heavier than my old battery. And I'm thinking of a new accessory in a 50 cal.

The guy was making such a big deal about a fishing spot on a steril mud hole of a lake in which he got skunked and he was trying to lay claim to the whole end of the lake...what a jackass. There is no visable vegatation in or around that lake and I can't see how it could support a fishery in it's current condition. Just put and take...sad.

Rich

Re: Lake Wohlford Antics

Same thing happened to us at Perris on Saturday. We pulled up to find a crusty old Club Tournament fishermen on our favorite spot. We anchored up about 100 yards away and started fishing. When he had moved off at least 100 yards, we moved in and dropped anchor. He comes on over and gets in our face saying that was his spot. Afterall he had just pulled a fish off it not 10 minutes ago, blah, blah, blah. Oh yeah this was all interspersed with F-bombs from this crusty old guy. He even threatened to cast swimbaits into my boat, to which I told him I prefer the 9" Hudds in ROF 10. We never even cussed back at him and just went about fishing our crawdads as he blew off steam (he really just hates crawdad fishermen). What really got his goat is that my buddy pulled in 4 fish and I pulled in 2 while he was doing his rant. It so pissed him off to watch this that he jetted off to fish the dam.

Re: Lake Wohlford Antics

CD,

Were you down at senior shoreline end? I was out to Wohlford about 4 weeks back at the other end and it was not only low.. it was basically dead... irony is that the fish reports keep sayng it is active on both ends of the lake but especially nearer senior shore line area....

anyway.. glad the toon trip worked out for you.. mayhap one day we will run into the other at the lake..Id love to see the tune in person...

That's the one thing about fish reports.....always consider the motivations of the sources. I'm pretty sure a tackle shop or lake management will never post a report that says "don't come up here the fishing sucks". I'm also pretty sure that if you ask me how I did on a particular spot you saw me on, I'm going to tell you to "never go there the fishing sucks". Unless of course I'm playing mind games with you and it really sucked.

You will never know!

hmmmmmmmmm now would this be a clear case of kinetic transfer of mess with Macs mind to another unsuspecting innocent soul?? or is it that I am getting a little bit used to CD's ways of messing with the newbie mind...??

either way...not sure bout the rest of you San Diegans.. but this guy will be on the lakes this weekend (wife has lots of paperwork to do for her job).. so I may be lucky enough to bump into some of you and be honored with making your acquaintance...Im easy to spot...Ill be the guy on the shore all tangled up in a fly line...
