You can also make the trip up to Bridgport or down to Crowley. It is a little bit of a drive though.
I am in from the boat all this week and then we head up to Crowley on Friday.
Let me know if you want more info on those lakes
Have fun!

Re: Any advice for the Mammoth Lake area???

We just got back from Mammoth area. We slayed at Convict lake. The Alpers wanted to die! They liked the wet fly there. We camped on the San Joaquin River at Mineret Falls campground. They plant rainbows often there! I prefer fishing the dry fly and there was a caddis hatch every evening while we were there, the fish were going crazy!!! On the dry fly they bit the PMD, Mosquito and Elk Hair caddis! Dry fly fishing we will get you german browns not the rainbows. Two guys working the river from Upper Soda down told me they had 60 fish between them on wet flies, mostly rainbows. The river is hot all the way from Upper soda to pumice flats. The one place I did not bring my rod and I was kicking myself was Devil's Postpile. There was some GREAT looking areas to toss a fly, the river widens out and there were some good looking holes!
Good luck to you! Let us know how you do!!!

PLEASE visit Joe Contaldi, Owner and Guide,. Performance Anglers, Mammoth Lakes, CA. He is a good guy and we've been fishing with him for 15 years. He'll definatly steer you right!

Re: Any advice for the Mammoth Lake area???

Thanks guys,

Specially Rawkon , if you see a Nissan Altima with a wooden canoe on the roof come to join us we could fit 3 people and a dog in this boat!!!!

But when you 're talking about sinking line do you think about wet flies or streamers??? because I have a good collection of streamers really heavy with lead cores and shiny white body, plus a white bucktail wing and until now I've been pretty succesfull with them....

Maybe see you in the water

PS we stay at the Tamarrack Lodge cabin n 33

You should get all the advice you need from you guide. Good call on Performance Anglers. One of their top guides is Steve Osterman. I've known him for almost 20 years. He's a great guy. Their shop is located in the L shaped shopping center at the corner of 203 and Old Mammoth Road.

Re: Any advice for the Mammoth Lake area???

I got back on sunday afternoon and fished twin most of the time, Lots of stockers were cuaght using the twin lakes special, and common lures. no big ones this year. the guys catching lots of fish were using power worms. I caught a few using lip ripperz. but i agree with you the moon killed most of the bite. oh well next time. I was on the lake sunday morning till about 10am. We were the two guys in float tubes on the lake. (only two in the morn)
