It all depends on what they are hitting and how deep for the size of the flies. Midge fishing at Crowley is mostly with 4-6 WT. rods now it seems.

This was reported in a Western Outdoor News Blog by the Sierras editor, Martin Strelneck.

"This past week there has been a little grumbling regarding a Sacramento perch catch taking top honors at Crowley Lakes Stillwater Classic catch and release fly-fishing tournament. Being at the event, my conclusion is it’s time to modify the rules—not badmouth involved anglers, tournament officials and the event."

You won with a big perch?

It's a numbers tournament all fish count. I didn't make the rules, If I happen to be lucky enough to win falling within there guidelines so be it. I fished with Kent yesterday, the director of the tourny. He said next year will be trout only. Fine with me.

Ya let it be no perch next year! If it would have been like it this year I would have won with 5 trout out of the 13 fish i caught. All the top 5 people caught perch because they knew the trout bite sucked and were smart enough to fish for something that gave them a chance to win.
