Fishing Bishop Creek

I am heading up that way and staying at Parchers Resort in mid July. Any suggestions for a new fly fisherman? Thanks in advance..

Hire a guide. Lots of good ones out there, and definitely worth the money for someone new to the scene. A good guide doesn't just show you "spots" to fish. They will explain technique and teach you things throughout the day that will help you become better at the sport. We offer guide service to the Sierras through our shops in Solana Beach and Temecula. Feel free to stop by and speak to a local expert anytime. Good luck.

thanks for the heads up I will see what I got left in the freezer from my last yellow tail trip. May be a good excuse to go out again this weekend.

Fished there a few times and would find it hard to fly fish the creek. We always use a very short rod for bouncing eggs in the pools. With walking along the creek hitting up different spots with a flyrod might be tough with all the trees and vegetation. I love that place and have always caught and released 80 percent of our catch with a few taken for the table.

Just talkedwith Smitty. Bring some fresh fish Bro..

After reading this, thinking of booking a after Laborday trip!

Here's your Flyfishing spot!
Weir Pond
Easily the most popular spot in the Bishop Creek Canyon for Fly Fishers is the 3 acre Weir Pond. Weir is located just below South Lake and about 1/2 mile up canyon from Parchers Resort. Weir is a shallow pond with subtle current making it a perfect spot for wading. This small lake holds a healthy population of wild brown, brook and rainbow trout in addition to planted rainbows and Alpers trophy trout.

I will be up there 15-19 July want to hike up the creek for sure and hit some of the smaller wild trout lakes, thanks for the tip riverplayer on the short poles, if the vegetation is so thick maybe a bubble and fly rig would work as well. I definetly want to hit up Weir pond thanks Surfdoc. Thought about taking the kayak as well, you guys think it would be worth the effort?
