They fly fishing lately has just been off the hook everywhere we go. Hot Creek and the East Walker have just blown us away this season.
Hot Creek has been producing larger numbers of 18 to 20 inch fish with the averages being in the 15 inch range. Every bug in the water has started coming off right now, midges, pmd's, beatis, and the caddis have just started showing in large numbers. Timing the hatches right now is key, which has been hard since it has changed every day with the weather we have had.
The East Walker has fished great for months and months now. Every time we go up there we are just blown away. There is no problem catching fish up there right now but the size of our averages has been changing from day to day. There is an abundance of 8 to 10 in browns that can be hard to get through at times.
Crowley lake has been off an on at times. TWR has found some really great streamer bites though. There hasn't been too many people fishing streamers either. Now a day's it seems like everybody just wants to stair at an indicator. The key to the streamer bite is finding the right depths. The fish have really been scatterd in different water depths from 18 to 14 feet of water.
If your headed up to the Eastern Sierra soon or sometime this summer consider taking one of our guides from TWR out for a day to avoid the confusion of figuring out where to go and what to use. We have 4 guides on the water daily fishing every area in the Sierra. For more info and better detailed reports check out our website
