It's shallow striper time soon all over the west, from the delta,to cal. lakes, and havasu, mead, and powell.October thru december should provide great fly opportunities, blind casting or hitting the boils.
Here on mead where I fish, flies such as the clouser, deceiver, and various saltwater style topwaters gain results. These fish pull hard, and action just gets better as the water cools.
Counting down to about 10 to 12 and stripping medium slow, produces well when blind casting fishy looking areas.Better to keep your rod tip low for a sweep set.Ravenous schoolies hitting the top, just need a quick delivery, and you just don't know what size is mixed in this mayhem.Zing-Pow with a 10lb tippet,or a hook straightened.
Most of these flies are mixture of white chartreuse with blue, red, gray,or any shad imitation.A model named the gray ghost has been hard to find, but productive.
