| South Fork of the Platte River, Colorado
I got to go back to the Platte last thurs, fri, and sunday. fished the section below Trumbull and the begining of the private water, the fishing was great, water flow around 150, nice and clear. Cold with some rain and wind on thurs., small Caddis hatch, friday sun and warm, Caddis going off and on all day with a bid cloud of them going off around 5:30 pm, fishing was great mainly before noon Sunday was light rain on the way up, turned out nice but lot's of wind, fished till noon (had to get to the airport), . I had real good luck using #22 black beauties and a few on #20 copper johns and RS2's.
If you get a chance to fish the S. Platte do it, the fish eat small flies, #20 -#22, I have good luck nyphing 2 fly set up, some soft weight, strike indicator. Caught mostly rainbows and a few browns. Hooked at least 35 fish but lost a lot, netted around 20, kind of rusty on my fly fishing but felt good that I was able to get them to take the flies. A #22 is a small little hook.
I love this river, use to fish it a lot when I lived near Denver, and always feel great when I get to come back. I'm still on a fishing high!
They were releasing a lot of water down the north fork, the highest I've ever seen, that thing was raging, up to the bank top in the Pine Junction valley.
