Got up early and put the bike in the truck. Made the bike trek to the pond just after sunrise. Commenced to some serious bass fishing. At 3pm I had only caught 2 lmb up to 14" so I ditched the bass gear and the bike and started hiking around with my 2lb test micro light and some tiny BPS grubs. Soon I was catching lot's of bluegills and and 1 dink bass. Then I made a cast across the creek into a pocket and as I was watching my grub sink I saw the vague image of a larger fish rise up and mouth my grub. I thought it was a carp but when I set the hook it turned out to be a 15" LMB. I thought there was no way I was gonna land this freak on 2lb test in this mess, but I got lucky. I ended up doing better on the bass in the creek with the microlite, than in the pond with the bass gear. Lame. Released that guy checked my line, straightened my grub and tossed it back into the same spot. The line moves and I swing. I'm one again! This fish is swimming at the speed of sound! My tiny rod is full scereaming bendo and I'm doing everything I can to keep the fish out of the bushes. Finally I see it and it's a monster bluegill. I had no choice, but to swing it up and prey that he stays on. Got em!
Wish my camera didn't suck, but it does. This bloog was a little over 11" long and about 2" thick. I didn't weigh him because i didn't wanty him to die. He is well over 10 years old. Here's a better shot of his length.
So cool. I'm so glad to be playing outside again.
Trophy Bluegill!! Anyone doesn't love them litl bulldogs is no friend of mine. Fun stuff. Way to go on the safe return for that old guy, we older guys gotta watch out for each other.
