| Irvine Lake to inspect pribvate boats for zebra mussels
Due to the increasing threat from the invasive quagga and zebra mussels, Irvine Lake has announced that it will implement a new inspection policy for all private boats being launched at the heavily-used Orange County reservoir.
Any privately-owned boat must be inspected by Lake Staff prior to heading out. If the boat and trailer are clean and dry, launching can be expedited. If the boat is wet or appears to have vegetation or other debris, it must be cleaned appropriately, including treatment with chlorine solution spray. A questionnaire must also be completed.
Most years see an average of 4,000 privately-owned boats laucnhing at Irvine Lake. An additional staff member will be scheduled to insure that boat inspections can be completed in a timely manner. Accordingly, the boat launch fee will be increased from $8 to $10.
