Trading houses with a friend in Truckee for 6 days over Xmas. Should I bring my fly gear, spinning gear, etc?

Fly gear. Anywhere on the river by downtown. Small midges. It might be tough fishing depending on how much snow is on the ground. You might be better off just spending the time on the slopes.............

I assume I should pick up some waders, or is there decent shore access?
Thanks, Bryan

Toss an m-80 in by the dam (lake tahoe/truckee river head) and grab those big pigs while no one is looking.

You can hit up Chucks tackle in Kings Beach Lake Tahoe for some info when you get there(or before you leave). He might be willing to give up a little. Make sure you know the regs for the area I've heard some nasty rumors about the locals and folks fishing the river illegally. I think the Truckee river itself is closed right now but there are plenty of other options.
Heres a link with some regs. Lake Tahoe Fishing License & Regulations - Fishing in Lake Tahoe |

The Ace Hardware in Truckee (11320 Donner Pass Rd. Truckee, CA 96161) right before you head up the hill to go to Tahoe City has a great fly section and knowledgable guys. Also check out: Truckee River Outfitters, 10200 Donner Pass Rd Truckee, CA 96161.
If you want to fly fish I would highly suggest waders. I have no idea what is and what isn't open right now.

Waders are in the works. I'll have some for the trip.
Thanks for the info. Any can't miss eateries in that area?

Best breakfast in Tahoe:
Fire Sign Cafe
1785 W Lake Blvd
Tahoe City, CA 96145
(530) 583-0871
Get the eggs benedict.
River Ranch Restaurant & Lodge
2285 River Rd
Tahoe City, CA 96145
(530) 583-4264
Cool place to grab lunch, cool views of the river.
I'll post up some more good places when my buddy who lives up there calls me back.
