Any recommendations??

Looking to pick up a rod and reel for lead core. Wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Also, the release I have been using on my down rigger is getting worn out. The release I have is really small. It's perfect for trolling really slow and for using light line. Been using it at Diamond Valley everytime I go and have just been slayin' the trout there. I don't use the down rigger for saltwater at all. I have a Scotty Lake troller with a 6lb. ball i think it is. I've looked at the releases Scotty makes, but wanted to see if there were any suggestions or what any of you all have been using and been successful with.

i use a kencore leadcore rod that thing is awsone i dont model # on the reel but it is i a level wind by shimanno w/12# leadcore i hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I hope to be shopping this friday for some new gear....everytime I go for a new rig I end up being such a tackle whore.....probably will again

Take a look at the Cannon brand releases. I use a Quick Release for trout fishing, good for light line and slow speeds with Flatfish, Kwikfish, and Tor-P-Dos, those big spoons we use for Cutts at Walker Lake.

For Leadcore I like a glass rod. I'm using a 6 footer with my 15 lb outfit for trolling Rapalas, and a 6'6" graphite rod with the 12 lb reel. I really like the lighter stuff for trolling the Needlefish as you really get to enjoy the fight.
