Lake Skinner Info

Heading out to Lake Skinner next week with some friends for some lake fishing. Anyone have any information on techniques for bass and stripers? Also, any other helpful tips on the lake would be appreciated. Never been there and my buddy says it is a great lake. Thanks.

i've had the best luck trolling shad pattern rapala's down by the dam. not alot o stucture to look for, so its all open water. try the coves on the east end for bass. i've heard of guys catching stripers on anchovies but no luck for me. good luck dude

Re: Lake Skinner Info

try the inlet and tie up to the bouy line just to the right of where the current is. cast your bait as far as you can into the current. try using pieces of anchovie or chicken liver. also try throwing poppers across the current toward the shore on the left side of the inlet. use a sliding egg sinker rig for your bait rig. also try along the bouy line along the dam. for bass try along the bank to the right as you head out of ramp one and if the water is up any of the coves with tules.

thats some good stuff right there boy. i also like the area around launch ramp 2 when they are planting trout. keep an eye out for boiling stripers and be prepared to fire a shad rap, fluke or zara spook into the melee. the grey bite can be really, really fun if you are in the right place at the right time.

all the big fish are no more, but there are tons of smaller 3-8lb stripers and a good population of whiskerfish that can be caught on cut chovie or chicken livers. if you have old skipjack, fish that stinky shit first....works really damned well for kitties.

Re: Lake Skinner Info

Go to ramp #2, hang about 50yds off the shore and cast a trout looking plug for stripers. While doing that flyline a anchovie.

Re: Lake Skinner Info

Are you taking your own boat? Lake is run by the same folks that do such a good job at DVL. Need an inspection and a 2006 compliant motor. HPDI, Opti, 4-stroke, etc. Lake opens at 6am. year round. No "greylight" fishing during the summer.

Re: Lake Skinner Info

Early morning for the first couple of hours of daylight, stripers up to 8 pounds in schools travel the eat end for schools of shad. when you see them blowing the top throw in 4-5 inch swimbaits on a light jig head to keep them close to the top and jerk and burn them through the boils. works every time for me.
