Irvine Lake opener WFO...........

Get out there and get your trout season started. Best day of fishing at Irvine in my short 8 years of fishing that lake. Troll.............and throwing lures worked all day. From the ramp to Trout Island, back to the mouth of the creek, all up and down the bluffs............rocky point, the dam and of course the west shore. The fish are everywhere. Most are your 1 pound to 1 1/2 models and the biggest I boated today was around 3 pounds. Lost a 5 pounder at the boat. Another one around that size spit the lure as he jumped as soon as I hooked him. Diawa SC shinners (replace the hooks....they suck), Rapala Taildancers, and a pink & white Thomas Buoyant is all I put on my line today. Here's a map of the lake for you guys and gals that are new or kinda new at fishing the lake.

I want to thank Irvine lake for a great stocking and having a great place so close to where I live so I can go have a hell of a day on the water. Thanks Big Steve for the invite and the opportunity to fish on your sled today. Brad your a blast to fish with also. Look forward to doing it again soon. A killer day of fishing.....home by 2............nice afternoon nap, (I'm getting old) can't be beat. Life is good.

Just like tuna fishing.................troll until you find fish in an area...........stop and throw on them till the bite shuts down. An Ultra lite rod.....2 lb test.........and there you go. Takes care of my fishing fix.

Glad you were able to fish that epic bite Curt . Congrats on the great day . Did you call out the #'s on channel 72 ? HAHAHAHA. That is funny .

Almost feels like tuna trolling when I launch my skiff in the lake and put out the rod riggers . I set my drags lite so the reel screams when I get a troll hit . Getting the fishing fix is what it is all about .

I bought one of those pink and white thomas buoyants today . Casting trout iron on the long rod is fun .

I am gonna try 3 inch big hammers tomorrow . I will be surprised if they do not work . I put a trap hook in the tail . I tied the trap hook off to the jig head hook shank with a piece of 10 pound braid . Threaded it through the tail section of the swimbait .

Too bad the fishing is not always like that . Sometimes it takes a couple hours to catch a limit .

Seriously though , I have never seen that many fish in the lake .
