Who likes Brookies and Cut-Throats?!

A long time fishing buddy and myself got out of town about 5PM and headed up 395 towards Bridgeport. Our destination was the Upper Twin Lakes and the Mono Resort. We got into the resort a little after 1AM and there were deer everywhere. I'm not joking one bit, there were more deer then I could count. There were even a few big bucks hanging out to my amazement! One of the Bucks was hanging out on the porch of another anglers cabin being hand fed by that angler! (Sorry I'm not re-sizing the pictures)

Saturday morning got up at 5AM and headed out to Brook Trout Blvd and Cut-Throat Lane. After a long hike the water was in front of us and upon arriving at the waters edge I noticed 60-100 Brookies in the shallows. The sun was out and it was in the high 60's for most of the day with a little breeze, for this time of year absolutely beautiful weather. I started out fishing the shore for a few minutes while my partner got his gear together and pumped up his float tube. I managed 2 Brookies in about 5 casts and couldn't take it any more so I got into my tube and started on my way. These Brookies were on the spawn (or they thought they were) and the bite wasn't as good as it could have been but it was still pretty good. I didn't catch a fish under a 1 1/2lb and I hooked one Brookie that went 4 1/2lbs. Cut-Throats were also on the chew and I also hooked one in the 3 1/2 to 4lb range. All the Cut-Throats went over 16 inches. Regs were 2 fish limit at least 16 inches with only artificials. We each ended up with somewhere between 15-20 fish each for half a day before deciding to pack it up and get some grub. All fish were released.

We finished Saturday off by fishing Upper Twin for a few nice bows one going around 3lbs. Sunday started off by going to Bridgeport Reservoir and the conditions weren't very appealing. The water was way down and there were some dead mud-hens in the water along with a foul odor. We both decided that it would be better to split and since the East Walker was full of anglers we decided to head to Virginia Lakes. We arrived at little Virginia and I was hooked up instantly. We ended up catching about 20 fish each, all smaller sized models and it was time to go in search of some toads. Game plan changed and we headed on down to Bishop to fish Intake 2 and North Lake. Not much to tell really Intake 2 was tough and we used up the allotted amount of sunlight so we never made it up to North. Monday was our last day and we got wind from some other anglers that Alpers had been recently stocked in Convict so away we went. I put my float tube in at the wooden bridge and kicked all the way to the inlet in the back and my 2nd fish was a 3 1/2lb Alper. This fish gave me the best fight of the whole trip. Fight ended up lasting about 5-6 minutes. There were 3 guys fishing from the shore and I posted up about 15 yards out in front of them. They were fishing bait on the bottom so I started casting in between each of them (they were in my favorite spot!:P) and I pulled out 4 of the 5 fish I caught at Convict. The wind started to pick up about 12:30PM and it was high time to get on the road and head home. Very good trip all in all and we are headed back here sometime soon before the closer.

Big and Beautiful Brookies . I have heard the fall is the best for the big browns and brooks in that area . Guess they were right . Congrats on the great trip !

Too bad you did not make it to North Lake . Awesome place .

You should come join us next weekend! One more time for an encore and this time should be even better since I will have a little more time to devote. I will post an alternate report and hopefully some sweet pictures of those as well. Thanks for all the replies.

"Sunday started off by going to Bridgeport Reservoir and the conditions weren't very appealing. The water was way down and there were some dead mud-hens in the water along with a foul odor. We both decided that it would be better to split..."

I've had good action at the Reservoir this time of year, but not yeaterday. The water level is down, but I was able to launch; just had to get my feet wet a little bit. Started trolling around 10:30 and only got one Rainbow, about a pound and a half. I was dragging a streamer on leadcore. Promptly lost that fly hanging it up on the bottom only to discover I did not have any others with me. Fished a few hours for no more love. Tried flatlining with Rapalas and a few passes with the leadcore rigs with a couple different Rapalas for nada. Ususally get some nice Browns up there, especially when the wind kicks up like it did yesterday. Decided to pack it up and get the boat back on the trailer as I was flying solo, so I had to wade a bit to get that done.

For what it's worth, some of the shore anglers were getting a few with bait.
