The rod does all of the work and absorbs almost all of the shock especially with the light line. The drag has to work, you have to be able to cast with it but other than that it just holds the line. Look at fly fishing for example. |

You guys are wrong.
When I switched from a $15 Diawa Sweepfire to a reel that cost $5 more I caught many more fish.
I think I could catch them all on a $2,000.oo reel.

Heres my babygirl. Stella 1000 on a Phenix Elixir rod. Its money well spent. This setup gets used about 5 times more than all my salt gear. The smooth drag comes in very handy when you got a DD trout on the other end of your 2# line. |

the drag on the stella is phenomenal once you have fished with it everything else is junk .
$ 600 dollars is only 2 much money if you had to pay for it ,
personally i would have never paid that much money for a fresh water reel but knowing the right peeps & having connections is a good thing !!!!!

That's what I'm talking about. Maybe a thread showcasing the Mitchels. Nothing like them in my opinion.

Oh... and all fish caught on a Shimano Symetre 1500 paired with a 8'6" custom jig rod rated 1-6#. The Symetre cost about $89-$100 and has pretty much most of the features that the Stella has minus those "expensive" drag washers and all. I've also caught 10# rainbows and 6# bonita on the same set up. I'm waiting for the day when I'm outmatched/over powered by a trout on that setup... would be in heaven if that were the case!!!
