Castaic Lake 10/15/09 Great fishing after the rain!

Been wanting to go to Castaic Lake all week but the weather, plus the fear of lightning from the rain (I am in a tin boat) hindered me from accomplishing my mission. Today the weather report said sunny and a warm 82 degrees, so I headed out. Woke up late and got to Gallions at almost 7. I happen to run into Dan (Lowe Boat). We exchanged numbers to locate the stripers. Got my usual large Italian sandwich and headed out. Here is how the day went:

The plan today was to bait and wait for the larger stripers that hang deep. Maybe some catfish too because I know the catfishing can be awesome after the rain. This is how the day looked. Dont you wish you were here instead of work?

While heading to my designated fishing hole, I did a little trolling. Instant Bendo!!! The rod is actually bending back and forth in that picture.

Result of trolling. Got about 3 to 4 of these things before arriving to my fishing hole. I think this is the 3rd fish of the day.

Arrived at my spot and found someone fishing near my hole. Ugh! They were wondering if this was the fishing hole that I posted. That is what I get for posting a picture of my fishing hole =/. Was going to set up on the ledge that they missed but they were casting all over. Did not want to be jerk and butt in or get too close, so I decided to fish some ledges I metered some fish earlier while trolling.

Went to one ledge and saw some good size signs of fish. A few moments later as my baits went by ledge I was going bendo. =). Note to the 2 fish on the fish finder.

These were probably the two fish on the fish finder. So now I know my fish finder is accurate =P.

Got a call from Dan (Lowe Boat). Told him I had a 6 already. He was fishing the ski arm, so he headed over to me in the fish arm. We worked an area of fish. I happen to land a larger model. This one was about 4 lbs. I think.

The plan was to fish the whole day. But pops need to borrow my truck, so I had to cut the trip short. I had only less than 2 hours to fish. So I decided to make a move to a place I am sure has some fish. I ran over an area and from my fish finder, it looks like a nice school of stripers suspended in the lower mid column.

Pitch down the 1/2 oz megabait spoon. I had a fish on every drop! All nicer fish than the ones I was catching earlier. The pool of blood is from the bled striper. It was almost noon and I had to head in. Called up Dan to help fill up the limits on his two person team. Left them biting and headed home with a fresh limit of 10 striped bass.
Total fish landed was 17. Had another 8 come off at the boat because I am a farmer. Although I did not get to fish as planned I had a great time. I got a nice sunburn too.

Hope you enjoyed fishing with me.

A striper spreader rig with bucktails and swimbait. I use the 3 arm one with 3 hooks. All the others are without hooks. CA freshwater regulations only allows 3 hooks. My setup is my local rockcod gear with spectra line and my old 6'6 tuna rod, which I designated as my freshwater troll gear now.
