Mission Viejo Trout Season Info

Found out from a friend at the lake this weekend that the first 2 trout stockings will be fish from Mt Lassen. The third will be the Nebraska trout and the stockings will alternate from then. Tune up those swim baits.

The trout fishing at LMV is something I look forward to every year. You can catch them so many different ways. Bring your girl or nephew that has never fished and they will be hooked for life. Power bait for the rookies, tubes and artificials for the ones that want a little more or a challenge. I mainly fish tubes in the 1/32- 1/16 weight. Pinch the barbs down to really have some fun. 1-2 lb. line with an ultra light rod. GOOD TIMES!!! Don't forget those bass setups, they staulk like the boogy man waiting for a free meal. Good luck to all and see you on the water. I believe it opens on the 21st of November.

Yes Nov 21. If you hadn't had those Nebraska trout they are a good fight and even better table fair. If you like smoked fish the Nebraskas are great.

Yes the fish fight is awesome. Catching them on the mini jigs is great. Almost every fish that was caught made some very good run and jumps. One fish I recall jumped atleast 5 times. Once you find them it's game on. Sight fishing and looking for life. I found that last year when I caught a real decent fish 3lbs. plus, they were all that size. There were some honey holes last year that were found that I don't remeber catching fish in those spots before. Love it!

Didn't the fish group up at the swim beach last year making them difficult to access? I have a buddy who lives there and we fished the opener (when all the fish died) but he followed the through the season and I thought I remember him saying the fish did not spread out around the lake last year.

Last season they did not (08-09), but the season before (07-08) they where all over the lake. I don't know if it had anything to do with the fact the last season was Nebraskas only and the season before was a mix. Some times schools of different size fish will affect there movement.

I was catching at the dam end last year. 5-15 of water. Absolutely killed them. Nobody else (that I know of figured it out.) It was like an ant trail, Everyone following the guy in front of them. But yes most of the fish were in the swim area. Don't forget that there are those big ole bass that sit and wait for dinner. A lot of why they were in the swim area had to do with all the 10 pound plus bass in that lake. Big plastics worked great at the dam side for mother BASS aswell! Good luck this year and think outside the box. There is nothing like listening to two guys complaining how it was slow or couldn't get to the fish, when you just raped and pillaged a school for 4 hours!! Peace

For those of you guys who fish LMV it's the best. The Nebraska fish are fun to catch and taste good. I don't care for the Mt. Lassen fish. They don't fight and have no flavor. I'm LMV Angler Of The Year for 2007, and 2008 trout seasons. This last April I caught a 6.25 (6.25 on the lakes scale) at the dam as 2 15lb bass hung around our boat. It attacked one my trout pretty bad and left a big scratch in the side of the trout. I'll invite people from this site if you are very respectful. Don't act like an ass. The rules have changed too.

The lake has imposed a fine citation program. Anyone caught casting less than 15 ft from the north swimbeach will be watched by the lifeguards in the tower. Anyone casting less than 15ft from any dock and caught will be fined. Fines start at $25.00 - $75.00 for different infractions. The fines are not sent to the lake member. If your fishing guest breaks the rule and is caught he will be sent the bill. Here is the info:

15ft rule general guidelines:

Boats must remain at least 15 feet from any private dock or bulkhead area around the lake, designated swimming areas and windsurfing areas at North and East beaches. This includes Mallorca, Tres Vistas, Finisterra and San Marino swimming areas, private docks and private boats tied to the docks. The “15 Foot Rule” means your boat and any fishing gear; (pole, hook, or line) must be at least 15 feet away from all private property. Private dock, boat or bulkhead violators will be subject to a fine, immediate expulsion and possible suspension of Lake Privileges. The Lake Association utilizes the Lifeguard Patrol and Rescue Department to enforce the majority of LMVA rules and regulations.

Prohibited Docking: Part of the 15ft rule guidelines.

Tying up to the bulkhead or leaving your boat and fishing from the bulkhead is not permitted. Tying up to any private dock, swim lines, or buoys, is not permitted. Violators will be subject to a fine, immediate expulsion and possible suspension of Lake Privileges.

Rule Enforcement, Discipline and Citation/Fine Program

1. Rule advisement may be a verbal or and/or written warning.
2. Violations of Lake Rules and Regulations may be met with a citation and a fine. If there is more than one violation per citation, there will be a fine for each violation.
3. Any serious violation of Lake rule (i.e. violation, theft, abusive behavior, trespassing) will be subject to a fine, immediate expulsion and suspension of Lake Privileges for a specified period of time to be determined.
4. Failure to pay the fine will result in suspension of access ot LMVA facilities until the fine is paid in full or the matter is resolved via a hearing with the board.

Violations included in the Citation Program
(Fines may change as management deems appropriate)

$25.00 - $35.00 Fine per Violation
1. More than one (1) fishing line per person
2. Unapproved bait
3. Failure to comply with toddler swimming attire
4. Use of bicycles, skateboards, razors and other wheel propelled devices
5. Littering on LMV property
6. Personal Flotation Device (PFD) violations
7. Non-registered boats
8. Failure to remove pets from facility

$35.00 - $50.00 Fine per Violation
1. Outside Bass fishing slot limits
2. Catch and Release of trout or non-release of bass during spawning season
3. Glass container enforcement
4. Trespassing on Lake Property or water before or after hours of operation or in restricted areas
5. Reckless boating damage to navigational aids
6. Disturbing the peace/excessive noise
7. Improper boat running lights for after dark operation

$45.00 – 75.00 Fine per Violation
1. Violation of the “15 Foot rule”
2. Fishing in undesignated areas (Swim, Marina or Kayak Launch areas)
3. Fishing without a membership card or guest permit
4. Swimming in unauthorized areas (More than 15’ from private dock)
5. Swimming in undesignated areas (outside of common swim areas)
6. Threatening actions including abusive language or physical action directed to any LMVA employee, Board member or representative of LMVA. (Disturbing the Peace)

So if I read this right you cannot even cast toward a beach or dock. That will be fun to enforce. perhaps a fine for the kids during the spawn snagging bedding fish.
