Annual Mammoth,Sierra Trip......


Annual Mammoth/Sierra Trip w/LOTS of Pics.......

Made my annual pilgrimidge with my 2 Bros. & another pair of Bros. we've known since childhood.

I left the Valley Sunday AM. glad to get out of the Heat.

After checking in at 4pm,we headed over to Silver Lake(the Bubble Hole),for a couple hours of evening fishing....

The fish were boiling all over,but we could'nt get 'em to go,which the Lady at the Lake Store said has been the norm.lately even though they've stocked every week & twice during Labor day week...Click the image to open in full size.

So,we had a nice meal & a few cold ones at Grumpy's(which was convieniatly across the street from our condo)....Click the image to open in full size.

Monday was spent mostly sight-seeing around the Loop,showing the one newcomer of the group,Jeff,around.We did some bush-beating along Rush Creek which was running very low for just a couple little 'bows that were released....

Tuesday was My day,as the old farts went Golfing and I headed up the one-lane road above Mammmoth to Reds Meadow......

I had never been up there this late in the season & was anxiuos to see the fall colors.It was 37 degrees at 8am and warmed to 78 by noon,talk about the need for layered clothing...!!!

I parked at Pumice Flats campground and walked down to the San Joaquin river and was greeted by these two......

I was faced with low water conditions again,and had to hike quite a ways to find a pool big enough to fish....

But when I did,I was usually rewarded.......

Weds.we headed for one of my favorite lakes....Convict.

Thursday was another ME day and I decided to go to Lake Mary & hike up to some backcountry Lakes......

The trail up mostly follows Coldwater Ck. and as long as I went slow & stopped often for air,I managed o.k.........

I could have went on to T.J.Lake which was another 20-30min. hike,but the trail looked to be uphill most of the way and I was bushed so I headed back down.I later learned that T.J. is easily accessable via a 15-20 min.hike from Lake George,next time...

As I was leaving the Coldwater campgrounds I saw this and could'nt resist the short 15min. tour of the old Mining camp....

After a great meal at Roberto's Mexican Resteraunt & another rousing night of Poker,we decided to head north the next day....

Friday,Ellery Lake

Fishing was slow....only 2 by me & 1 by Tom,so we headed back to have some lunch at Dick's Tiger Bar in the loop and try our luck at Mamie to end the day.....

Using the Salmon Peach again,I managed my limit in less than an hour while everyone around me was skunked except steve who got one....

A great time was had by all,and we reluctantly had to pack up our stuff to leave on Sat. morning.After a great breakfast at The Stove,we parted ways to dream of....
Next Year....!!!!!

A side note....,
Anyone who loves traveling up Hwy.395 like we do should pick up this book,which I've been bringing with me the last 15yrs. for the guys to read at the condo.....It's full of fascinating facts & history of all the things that we zoom by on our way up.

Great report! I`ve had that book for about 15 years. When I bought it, the store owner said she and her husband read it out loud to each other when they make the drive up 395. There are several good web sites as well.
Hoping to get up there this fall, thanks for the report.

Thanks for the responses everybody.....I strongly recommend hittin' up the Sierra's before closing time.It's bound to go off soon & the Browns should start stacking up near the inlets.....Good Luck !!!
