Destination reached in 4 1/4 hrs....
After checking in at 4pm,we headed over to Silver Lake(the Bubble Hole),for a couple hours of evening fishing....
The fish were boiling all over, but we could'nt get 'em to go,which the Lady at the Lake Store said has been the norm.lately even though they've stocked every week & twice during Labor day week...
So,we had a nice meal & a few cold ones at Grumpy's(which was convieniatly across the street from our condo)....
Then it was time for some
Cards...
Monday was spent mostly sight-seeing around the Loop, showing the one newcomer of the group,Jeff, around. We did some bush-beating along Rush Creek which was running
very low for just a couple little 'bows that were released....
Tuesday was
My day,as the old farts went Golfing and I headed up the one-lane road above Mammmoth to Reds Meadow......
I had never been up there this late in the season & was anxiuos to see the fall colors. It was 37 degrees at 8am and warmed to 78 by noon, talk about the need for layered clothing...!!!
I parked at Pumice Flats campground and walked down to the San Joaquin river and was greeted by these two......
I was faced with low water conditions again, and had to hike quite a ways to find a pool big enough to fish....
But when I did,I was usually rewarded.......
A leisurely 4 hr. stroll through sundrenched meadows & I only saw 2 other people....
The ride back down to Town was no less spectacular.....
Minarets
Earthquake Fault
Weds.we headed for one of my favorite lakes....
Convict.
Me and Steve decided to break out the 'Tubes & head for the inlet...
The view from my tube was unbelievable, both above & below...
20-30ft. down...!!!
I kicked over to Steve & asked him to take a pic of me in the tube and as soon as I tossed my 'lil gold Kastmaster,I was hooked up...
We went ashore to check things out & take care of some
business
Fascinating place.....
Thursday was another ME day and I decided to go to Lake Mary & hike up to some backcountry Lakes......
The trail up mostly follows Coldwater Ck. and as long as I went slow & stopped often for air,I managed o.k.........
Some neat Flora....
1st stop Emerald Lake
Pretty as heck, but I could'nt find any fish in it,oh well...
More cool plants
Next stop Barrett Lake
If a tree falls in the Forest......
There are places up there were there
is no sound,Nice
Barrett Lake
I could have went on to T.J.Lake which was another 20-30min. hike, but the trail looked to be uphill most of the way and I was bushed so I headed back down.I later learned that T.J. is easily accessable via a 15-20 min.hike from Lake George, next time...
As I was leaving the Coldwater campgrounds I saw this and could'nt resist the short 15min. tour of the old Mining camp....
After a great meal at Roberto's Mexican Resteraunt & another rousing night of Poker,we decided to head north the next day....
Friday,Ellery Lake
Water was low,but you could see fish.
My Brother Steve in the foreground,Jeff, and Bro Les on the farside.
Tom working the point.
My 1st fish,on Salmon Peach PB.
Fishing was slow....only 2 by me & 1 by Tom,so we headed back to have some lunch at Dick's Tiger Bar in the loop and try our luck at Mamie to end the day.....
Tom & Jeff fished the outlet, and Me,Les & Steve were spread out about 20ft. apart to they're left.....
Using the Salmon Peach again,I managed my limit in less than an hour while everyone around me was skunked except steve who got one....
Terrible pic,but the Alpers went 3.10lbs on the digital....
A great time was had by all,and we reluctantly had to pack up our stuff to leave on Sat. morning. After a great breakfast at The Stove,we parted ways to dream of....
Next Year....!!!!!
A side note....,
Anyone who loves traveling up Hwy.395 like we do should pick up this book, which I've been bringing with me the last 15yrs. for the guys to read at the condo.....It's full of fascinating facts & history of all the things that we zoom by on our way up.
Hope you enjoyed sharing my vacation with me and I encourage everyone to visit this area.......
And please....pick up any trash you see as you are exploring even if its not yours.....Thanks...
