The wife and I are heading up to Convict on the 7th for a few days of fishing and fun. The pics were great. You were all over the place up there. You did some walking..... My Aunt and Uncle lived in Mammoth for 30 years. Went fishing and skiing a few times a year up there. Now that they have come to S.D. I never get up there. Thank you for this outstanding post. It really got me in a better mood. Had a rough day and a friend said check out this post it will make you feel better. It did. Life is full of great trips and even if the fishing is slow, it makes you look at and see what god has blessed all with. A beautiful place to play. WTG Rubble

Heading up the end of Oct for a 9 day cast and blast. Hopefully my 'sportsmans lounge' is still standing after the quake today. BTW, that's the courthouse in Independence not Big Pine (not that you need a geography lesson, but poor little Independence gets no respect).

Oh...and I forgot, how funny you mention Ginny Clark's book. I found it last week while cleaning out the storage room in my barn where it sat for 10 years or so. Just read it again cover to cover last weekend. Great book...I shall explore the Owens Valley and Eastern Sierra til I die.

I give Independence Mad respect.

Just happen to see your report and it was great! Mammoth is one of our favorite places to get away from the big city!
Lake Ellery has always been good to us, except the time the bear ate our stringer by the dam.
Talking about catching your breath, have you tried Tioga Lake just above Lake Ellery? Park by the outhouse at the look out point and hike straight down to the shore. I consider myself to be kind of fit for a 60 year old, but that hike back up to the parking lot is a killer! I have to stop every five steps or so to catch my breath!
Again, nice report!

Andy | Silver is in the June loop between Gull & Grant,it has some of the oldest buildings & businesses there too....as well as a pack station that takes you to the backcountry.Rush creek flows out of it and the 2 miles or so past the lake is one of my favorite stream fishing areas ever.
We stayed in Sierra Summit condos this time, but have stayed in many in Mammoth & June lake over the years.....
Where are yours...???,maybe we could use you next year,PM me if interested.
Thanks again Everyone,I'm glad you enjoyed my pics & story....
Can't wait 'till next year....
