Eastern Sierra End of June

Well it finally feels like summer up here in the Sierra. We have had temps in the high 70s in Mammoth all week. With the warm weather things are really starting to change to.

To start off, Crowley has still been up and down. The water is really off colored right now and is in full bloom. The weed lines are reaching the surface and it's really shaping up to look like we will have a great perch fry grab on the streamers. Within the next few weeks I'm guessing it is really going to turn on. We are hooking some fish on streamers right now but TWR has not found any great bite yet. If your headed to Crowley and want to fish streamers I would fish a black type of streamer up front with either a calllibeatis or damsel nymph as the trailer. The indicator bite has really been off and on also. The fish are starting to move into the normal depths now, in 16 to 12 feet of water. McGee is fishing the best right now, Sandy Point and the Hiltons are also fishing ok. For the trollers the Tazmainen Devils have been the ticket. Fish them 5 to 6 colors back in about 25 to 35 feet of water. Dave was on the water with some friends on Friday and they landed 18 browns fishing this way. The best colors are the orange and green patterns.

Hot Creek is starting to turn more into Hot Creek style of fishing. It is still really good but hard to find what the are eating. Just about everything that lives in the water is coming off now. The flows have started to drop from the hi run off which always makes it more techy fishing. There is a decent grab on PMDs and midges in the mornings. Mid day there have been yellow sallys starting to come off. The Evenings are flocked with caddis on the water. I could go on for an hour about what to use here and when to fish it. For the list of flies check out our website. If your interested in fishing here for the first time or have fish here before and want to avoid the hassel of figuring the fish out take one of our guides out at TWR.

The Mammoth Lakes basin is fishing the best so far since the opener. We have been getting plenty of Alpers and DFG plants. The Alpers are on the small side this year in the 2 to 3 pound range. Hopefully soon they'll have some bigger fish to dump in. Every lake is fishing great. The Callibeatis on the Twins is showing its self in the mornings along with great midge hatches and damsels.

June Lake loop is also fishing great right now. We haven't had the chance to fish it for ourselfs yet but the guys that work in the shops will be giving me more detailed info on these lakes this week.

The San Jacquin is BLOWN out. The fishing down there is really tough right now. The flows are just too high for any sort of dry fly action. This should all be changing soon though. We will probably be headed down there again some time this week. Once the flows start to drop it is really going to be game on!

If you've been reading the reports on TWR sorry for the delay in new reports. We will be working very hard this week to get them all updated. Also we are booking up fast for our guide trips this summer so send me a message if your interested in a trip? For any more info send me a message of what you'd like to find out about.

Thanks for the report Jason. My friends just came back from Crowley and said the algae bloom was pretty bad. They made up for it at Bridgeport. I'm heading up there this weekend with my wife and our little dog. I hope to catch some fish!

Just came back from a week up there. There are tons of mosquitoes and they are biting!

We did really well at Sotcher Lake, Ellery and Tioga.

Rock Creek Lake was a zoo. I've never seen so many people there. Everyone was looking for a spot along the shores!
