Barrett Lake

I am heading out to Barrett this coming Sunday. I hear you can pretty much catch them on a variety of top water action. What colors do you recommend? Any good spots to try out there? How are those boats? What size plastics and hooks should I use? Any information would greatly be appreciated.

Oh yeah if anyone has fished it recently, how was it?

I fished Barrett back on May 16th (80+ fish between us). We had no real topwater bite, a few frog fish (Spro Brown w/ Black belly). Most of our fish came on jigs pitched into the tulles. We also got em on char/white spinnerbaits. As for spots to fish, just look for areas that look "fishy". Make sure you have your fishing license and hook barbs pinched down, the DFG does come to the lake and check. And bring plenty of water to drink. The rental boats are in good shape, they got new motors this year so enjoy. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

what Mike said. new 4 strokes are nice, boats are typical rentals, ok for up to 3, 4 is a crowd. check for other posts from barrett in freshwater fishing. we fished last month, no topwater action for us, and saw little surface activity. think small 4-6" plastics - worms, brush hogs, etc. blues, purples, pumpkinseed. crankbaits and spinnerbaits worked well too. please post up a report after your day. we're going a week from sunday.

sdfish.com has a separate forum for Barrett reports. We fished it on 6/3 with so-so results. Probably 70 fish between 3 anglers which is slow by Barrett standards. New 4 strokes are nice, you don't have to turn the motor around to backup and they start on the 1st pull. I got a couple of morning fish on a huge frog JP gave me but stayed pretty much with the dropshot. Heat was bearable. No rangers or DFG. We spent the previous night dremmeling all of our barbs. Good luck!
