Another Trout on the Troll @ the Vine.

Here is the biggest of the day from the Vine last Saturday. (1-3-09)
Click the image to open in full size.
All the other fish were less than 2.5 lbs. A slow day overall.

I saw a couple of larger troll fish taken that day, including a 15 lb. monster.

All my fish were taken on the troll using 6 lb. green tint Izor XXX.

I was using a 00 Luhr-Jensen Chrome with Prismatic Tape Dodger towing a size 4 baitholder with a threaded crawler on a 4 lb. Seaguar 14" flouro leader.

I smeared it liberally with Nitrogrease, infused with copious amounts of Garlic BANG spray.

It put up a real nice fight due to the nearly complete tail it possessed.
It was only missing a small section of the top of the tail.

I seem to have pretty good results while using the Garlic spray.
But I am gonna switch back to the Shad BANG now that I have a new can.
I lost my old one about 6 months ago.
Has anyone seen it laying around anywhere?

I think I will move up one or two lbs. on the line rating.
I would hate to lose a real nice fish for want of stronger line.

I think I will stay with the Izor XXX green tint.
What are your opinions regarding my selection of Izor XXX?

I am not sure why but Trout have ALWAYS loved Garlic. Corn too but that is because they are raised on corn based meal ( Purina trout chow...no kidding) in the Hatcheries ( That is why it is against the rules to use canned corn)

Can you point me in the right direction in order to help me find the rule that states that any kind of corn, other than CHUMMED corn, cannot be used?

TIA,

OK I will look for it for you ....I used to use it all the time when I was a kid...small marshmallow on treble kernal of corn on each prong and roll it all in powdered Garlic...Limits in an hour. I was doing that in a bay area lake in 2000 and a F&G Guy steps up and asks ..so what you using?.. I tell him and he says I guess you don't know that is against the law now and has been for years....well it had been years since I had fished from shore for trout so he just took my corn and didn't write me up thank God!!

UPDATE I saw an article where it may have just been the Lakes WHERE I was fishing and not ALL of California. Check with (Call) DFG to be sure.

Nice job Alan!!!
I've never tried Izor, I use Maxima Ultra Green.

Reason for "no corn" as bait is due to corn does not break down well (look at your turd the next day after you eat some) now imagine what that does to the intestinal track of a trout. Yep, it blocks it and the little dudes die from an intestinal blockage, basically they end up dying full of shit full of toxicins from a rupture.

That is One reason. The Man who told me the other reason was The State Biologist who is in charge of the division that Breeds the Fish and Manages how they are raised and crossbred to give us the best fish that grow the fastest. I had met with him on another issue and he told me about it. Why else does anyone think a FISH would be attracted to a VEGETABLE?? That Trout Chow is also against the law to posses unless you are a certified farmer ( tried to get some from him )

Nice fish. It takes longer to prep a bait than to mix a cocktail.

mix a cocktail........

I had a Corney Keg (5 GALLONS) of my own homebrew onboard that day, no foolin'.

As soon as I had landed the fish in the above photo I drew a nice long draught straight from the tap.

It's a lot like chugging from a Beer Bong, but there's a lot more foam.

I dont know where the written law is but in CALIFORNIA it is illegal to chum or use corn for bait...go try it sum time and find out for yourself if u get caught it wont be worth it...out here in NEVADA however we can use it for bait and chum the shit out of it!!! I just cant believe that I catch stripers up to 4lbs on a size one bait holder hook with 6 pieces of corn on it! (I also know that the pictured fish is not 4lbs! 2lbs max but its a fish that ate corn!)
