I had a Corney Keg (5 GALLONS) of my own homebrew onboard that day, no foolin'.

As soon as I had landed the fish in the above photo I drew a nice long draught straight from the tap.

It's a lot like chugging from a Beer Bong, but there's a lot more foam.
Now thats what I call drinking, I mean fishing! Who cares about about catching. I need a fishing buddy like you.

I just cant believe that I catch stripers up to 4lbs on a size one bait holder hook with 6 pieces of corn on it! (I also know that the pictured fish is not 4lbs! 2lbs max but its a fish that ate corn!)
Are there any trout in Nevada, besides the beautiful Lohantan cutthroats in Pyramid Valley Lake?

Maybe they chew their food at least 32 times before swallowing it?

Does anyone remember their moms telling them to chew their food at least 32 times, once for each tooth?

I asked a California DFG agent about using corn as bait and the answer I got was that so long as I didn't chum with it I wasn't breaking any regulations. I looked in the Regs last year and could not find anything prohibiting corn as bait, only the prohibition against chumming ANYTHING in fresh water.

Maybe the rules have changed.

There have been a number of changes from last years regs. More anglers, more regulations.

Great work Alan. Man , the big boys are chewing . Awesome catch. That is a creative rig you are using as well. Very nicely done. You are the dodger king. Looking forward to trolling for a little bit Saturday. Hopefully the wind does not blow, saw a forecast for Santa Ana's.

Thanks Ken, I really appreciate the compliment.

I was not paying attention on the way on as Patrolman Jerry came by to tell me to wind em up and he ran over my last Luhr-Jensen 00 dodger. I guess I had it farther back then I thought or else I would have waved him off. He later told me he heard it hit the side of his hull as he crossed my wake....lol

It says 5 to 10 mph, but I am sure it will be more in the canyon. I bet the morning will be pretty calm though. Get out there early and hit em hard. I guess you are planning on getting in some fishing before the start off the seminar?

Corn mythology

It is not and never has been illegal in California to use corn as bait, however it is highly illegal to use it for chumming.
Some specific privately-owned lakes have banned canned corn, simply because of the difficulty in enforcing the "no chumming" rules, and if you don't chum liberally with corn, it's not that good as bait.
As for it killing the fish, also a myth.
It is true that they can't digest it, and in experiments fish that were fed only corn and nothing else eventually do die of malnutrition.
They pass it on through in much the same way as humans...................
It's also not illegal to simply possess Trout Chow, you can go to any country "Feed Store" and order it, but most stores do not keep it in their regular daily inventory.
I'm also sure that if you had a 50-pound bag of Trout Chow in your boat, you would be hard-pressed to convince the Warden that you were not chumming with it!

Just wondering where you got your info and can you provide a link to it.... I'm Just sayin. I was told what I was told by a CALIF DFG Officer with a Badge and a GUN ( Bay Area Lakes Not legal to use corn for bait, about 6 years ago) and the other was a PHD who runs the fed group that breeds our national fish stocks. He also heads the genetic engineering of hybrids About the trout chow. He is man behind the Hybrid Giant Grass Carp they use in our waterways to keep them clear Suckers are over 6 feet long

So I am sure you understand I need some hard facts in writing before I risk Fines.

corn myths

There is no link saying corn is legal as bait because the DFG regs only spell out what you CAN'T use and that you CAN'T chum.
Again specific lakes [like EBMUD] and other Bay-Area lakes can indeed have their own separate regulations, but that is not the same as a DFG rule.
I am a County Fish and Game Commissioner where I live.
Although I'm not myself a PhD [much to my mom's chagrin], I have occasionally found that PhD's may exhibit "absent-minded professor" tendencies and get things like this wrong.
I have caught hundreds of trout that have their bellies full of rocks and sticks that they picked up while foraging for insects, and they pass these materials with no problem as well.
BTW, For several years, Berkley has sold "Trout Chow" pellets that are made of Power Bait.
They don't usually work nearly as well as good old regular Power Bait, unless of course you chum with them!
