LMV Trout Cronicles Episode 2: A New Hope

With the lake planting an other 8,000 pounds of Nebraska rainbows this week I had high hopes of a good bite.WRONG! According to my sources there was little die off this time. Not sure how many boats on the water today but it seemed like half of what was out last week. I started shallow in my ussual spots and found No fish. I started working deeper and deeper spots for nothing. Saw very little signs of fish. Worked hard at it till 11 and called it a day. I only saw 1 fish caught. Also saw alot of guys who also fish the lake regularly and they all had no fish. I am not going to start anything YET, but last season there was always some fish that where biting for someone on the lake the weekend after the stocking. The water does seem warmer than last year but I don't think that's it. When I talked to the guys working the boat rentals they said that the fish haven't been biting very much at all since they were stocked. I don't know how motivated I am to go out agin tomorrow but I just want to find out for myself that the fish are there. I am not ready to call BS on an other 8K pounds of trout but it sure is hard to try not to.

I'm a bass guy and haven't been out for the trout yet. I guess that's a good thing given the fishing. Are you fishing from your yak?

I've been thinking about a yak but I couldn't really use it at LMV and Dana Point.

These Nebraska bow's that they started putting in Poway and MV last year have been a great fish. Good fighters, great color and a lot of fun to catch. I think it my be the warm water myself Mike. I've only been out this year once, and that was at the Vine and had a great day. That's a different strain over there and maybe they aren't effected by the warm weather that we have right now in Dec. In my experience..........the colder the water, the more active the trout are. You may want to slow your retrieve down. Try using a water bubble and a nightcrawler. The slow fall usually works when the fish are not active. You just have to keep going, and going, and going.............trying different techniques till you figure them out. Hope to be on MV soon.

Curtis..............

The boat Little Hanna II........

hey I did all right at poway they are slow and want night crawlers
very little wight very little put alitle air in the tail and dont keep the motor running stop and drift so the crawler drops then start again. working great for the bigger size fish. stay in the deeper water.

I went the day after the plant and got skunked...I brought the boat in at 10:00 and the rental guys said all the trout were balled up in front of the life guard shack in the no fishing area......Went again Saturday afternoon around 4:00 and fished from shore..Got skunked for the 3rd time......I did see a nice 3 pounder taken on a minijig from shore and heard of a 7 lbr from a boat...Rumor has it there were some taken from the sizzler cove area...
