LMV Trout Cronicles Episode 1: WTF?

Today was the trout season opener at LMV. The lake has been closed to fishing for 4 days so you would think that the 8,000 pounds of Nebraska rainbows would settle in. WRONG! Once I got the "Serpenta Del Mar" launched I headed to my favorite spot for NADA. I then tried all of my spots for NADA. WTF? With the water 60ish at the surface I thought I could find plenty of fish deep and on the drop offs. WRONG! With that much fish planted someone should be catching something. WRONG! It seems that alot of the fish died when they put them in. Only saw 1 trout all day. Thinking about going back tommorrow anyway just to be sure. Plenty of small bass and BIG bluegill bitting.

Went there also at @10 to see whats going on. Heard from a friend that had been there since 6 who said not one single trout had been landed. Got the inside word from one of the staff that all of the 7500lbs of trout including 300 over 5lbs had died after being released into the lake. The water temp was 67 today and I think that has something to do with it. The launch ramp stunk and there were big trout all over dead on the bottom. I decided to fish for panfish and caught over 60 and that includes the new yearly record crappie of 1.9 lbs. Tried to release it but it died.Dinner. I heard that they are doing a double stocking of the nebraska bows on the 3rd. It's pure bullshit that the lake continued to rent boats and sell tacke without mentioning this. I saw one trout that was alive all day. These aholes continued to siphon in money all day and were not allowed to tell the members the truth. Great lake, the biologist is just covering up for their unfortunate mistake. It will get better. I heard this stocking cost 30k. I guess bonuses are out for the staff.

I had wide open pan fish every where I tried to fish also. WTG on the 1.9. There was way too much trafic to fish bass either. I am calling BS too. They should have canceled opening day and told everyone the truth. I would have apreciated that and felt a little better about the LMVA lossing a 30K$. I would like to here the biologist side of the story too.

Good to hear you chime in Mike. The fact that there was a waiting list to rent boats for an almost non existent species is a joke. I want to go on record saying that the staff there were incredibly nice, but were told by upper brass not to talk about the situation. I will personally be contacting the lake about the issue and if I do not agree with their resolution I will contact the big green liar and all local media. We pay dues and someone needs to answer our questions. Been fishing there for 23 years and someone is gonna have to answer some questions!

I fished there yesterday & did manage to get two very nice sized trout, but I had to fish hard for them. I guess the story goes that the stocking truck broke down in Salt lake City for 8 hrs & to keep the water cold they dumped ice in the truck, so when they got to the lake the water in the truck was to cold compared to the lake. Supposedly the hatchery is taking the liability & will make up for it, but that still doesn't excuse the staff, yes they were very nice but they didn't say a word about the die off untill I asked.

Thanks for the all of your comments. It helps a little to hear everyone vent. Nice job on getting one Fred. I am heading out this morning. I hope it was the hatcheries fault and they do make up for it.
