It seems like some stanford law school pricks sued the dfg for endangering native species by planting trout. So now they are currently not planting until they are done negotiating. Oh well, guess I always have the ocean to fish... OH FUCK!

The department is concerned with the recreational impacts that curtailing our stocking programs have on the fishing community. In addition, our stocking program has important benefits to many small businesses and communities that depend on fishing.” In October 2006, Stanford Law students sued DFG over fish stocking programs it has engaged in for more than 100 years, claiming that no Environmental Impact Report (EIR) had been completed for the programs. The result of the case was a court order requiring DFG to complete an EIR. DFG is engaged in the years-long and multimillion dollar EIR process, now scheduled to be completed in January 2010. Due to delays in the EIR process, on Friday, Nov. 7 Sacramento Superior Court Judge Patrick Marlette told the department to negotiate with the petitioners to seek an agreement on terms for how and where DFG may continue stocking fish during the time it is preparing the EIR. If an agreement is not reached, the department might face an injunction that could stop altogether or significantly reduce its fish stocking programs. If an agreement can be reached in the next two weeks, the parties will take that agreement back to the judge for his approval.

In So. Cal. Malibu Creek, Piru Creek, Santa Ana River, Lytle Creek & other small creeks in the region will probably crease to get stocked, county park lakes & resevoirs will probably receive more fish. The Eastern Sierra will be mostly shut down & most high elevation waters "streams rivers & lakes" will never be stocked again. As if the economy wasn't bad enough for the people that depend on this resource, it's about to get worse. I hope these college boys are proud & I wonder how many of them have ever really had the experience of trout fishing. I'm all for saving the environment but most of these waters have been stocked for over 100 years, sorry fellas but the damage is done. Take your kids fishing while you still can, pretty soon it will be places like Irvine or Santa Ana River Lakes only, unless you want to catch a "native" fish, & that makes you wonder how much more pressure will be on those?
