Well, it's time to change the venue. Saltwater 2008 was nothing less than UN-BELIEVABLE !!! Thank you fish-gods. As the seasons change, so does my prey, so a day at DVL was the perfect way to jump-start my quest for another double-digit Largemouth Bass.
Hemet Valley at sunrise
Just a few people in line
The walk back up is a while lotta' fun
I don't understand why the lake is closed to private boats, I've been down ramps in Baja that make this look easy !
I spent almost the entire day throwing, and throwing, and throwing, and throwing the swim-bait over main and secondary points
I managed to punk a few in the 3# range on the smaller swim-bait
Out of sheer panic, I moved to the outside and drop-shotted in 60' on some meter marks. I got one good bite with an ensuing 3 mintue fight. As the fish came to color I couldn't belive I was looking at a 18-19" smallmouth !! It was built like a scaled-down Cedros yellowtail, thick down the lenght of it's body. I'm guessing around 4-4.5#. I have hooked many in the average 1/2-2# range and this one was giant. No net, so I lipped it, at which point my 10# Trilene Maxx broke at the knot, along with my heart !!! Maxx just doesn't tie up well IMO as the line above the knot seemed to distort eveytime I tie a hook on. NO MORE MAXX !!!
Still had a great day on the hunt with plenty of National Geo stuff going on
San Jacinto
San Gorgonio
With the water-level down, I cruised around marking some structure for future DVL exploits
When the cattle came back to the barn at 4:00 PM, I saw several 10-15# class Stripers being off-loaded, nice fish that were caught on various big swim-baits off boiling shad schools.
Go out and get you some !!!!!
Fishing isn't a hobby, it's a way of life!
