Hey BD,I'm FNN's Bassmaster,and this is my first report here.Enjoy this shit...
8/29 Castaic part I:
me,my buddies khanh,and gary (only fished morning and afternoon)
Me and KPN(Khanh) got to the lake at 5:40am.We met up with Gletem'feelthesteelGary(Gary) at the line also,we saw bucketbay and we chatted with him.The day was pretty weird and started off with some overcast.We started off in the morning casting KPN's excellent lures to the boils and caught some.There was minimal boils though,,,weather was very strange and gary needed to go to work so we dropped him off.
Then me and KPN started trolling all around the fish arm and beyond.We started trolling around the middle east side of the fish arm and ZZZZZZZZ a schoolie!When we tried to net it it got unhooked and Damn!We just continued on and ZZZZZZZ another schoolie!It was killed!HAHAHAHA
Then we trolled a little longer and moved on to the bouyline.It was a very bad descision because no damn stripies!There was no concentrations of stripiews to be seen,,,Me and bucketbay were looking all around,,,he kept on seeing some small loner fish and so did I...We decided to motor on off and get some lunch at the castaic store.We then left on trolling all the way to elizabeth canyon from the marina.We got a couple hits,,,,but damn.
Right at about 1:00pm it was about 106* degrees and it was the reason why the action was screwed up...We got an instinct to go back to the marina and troll there...We got there and right when we put our rigs ZZZZZZZZ a nicer sized schoolie was landed!KPN was very happy because the action was pretty bad...
Then We went to "Dry Gulch" and scope some fish out...none at site but we baited and threw out some lures....The Graph read nothing everywhere...What a drag.
Gary calls and tells me he's coming...We picked him and started trolling the whole fish arm,,,then ZZZZZZ Hookup!It was my turn so i got a LMB...nothing special but a Skunk Shaka'!
We trolled all the fish arm and got a couple afterwards but no nice ones....Damn!
Nice Meeting you KPN,,,You are bada$$,,,and Bada$$ lures as well!I give you props man.Also,nice seeing you bucketbay!Your cool too dude,,,
Castaic Part II:
Me,Gary,Dad,and khanh(he only fished the morning.)
Gary picked me up at about 9:00am at the docks because i had to take care of some business.Khanh left home when gary picked me and my dad up.He said he caught a nice LMB in the morning.We then left off to slay some fish!
We got to our spot and started casting KPN lures...The boils were still not very consistent because of yesterday's weather and today there was overcast as well.We did a couple of casts and at one point gary threw his lucky KPN lure at a boil and....ZZZZZZZ my fav. song was on!Gary Fought it and said "Damn this is a Big one!"....When we got it close....TWO FREAKEN LMB WERE ON ONE LURE!!!!!!Damn Gary was so freaken Happy!I was amazed too!What a damn great hit that was!He even...Popped a SMILE!
...The action then started dying off...
We went on the troll.We decided to go to a point were the stripies were yesterday.There was consistent action i tell ya,we started off good and it was my turn!ZZZZZZ the rod bent,,,it was a LMB at the exact spot as the one i caught yesterday,but it wasn't hooked on correctly so it shook the hook,,,ok,i wasn't gonna take it anyways,so whatever,,,Then we caught about 3 or 4 off of the same spot but it died off.
It was past noon and We moved on to the bouyline yet again,but nothing there at all!We trolled back and oooh a sweetspot!We trolled past there,it was shallow and ZZZZZZZ we thought it got stuck,but nope it was a schoolie,,,better than nothing and more consistent action at very shallow depths at about 7'-29'....
We did a couple of passes there too and we saw TroutOnly and Trollmiester hook up a couple stripies.We weren't doing so well after and then we switched our rigs and used almost the same rigs as his.The Credit of our Slay goes to him because our rigs werent so effective there.
We did a couple runs more south of that spot and ZZZZZ Schoolie!
...The action was consistent at that region.We stayed there from 4:00 up.We kept hooling up solid schoolies.
Then we went a little more south of that part and ZZZZZZZZZZ...My turn!Haha, i told gary,,,I reeled it in and it peeled drag,it was a larger sized one,about 7+Lbs.I was very happy and then it was my dad's turn.He got hit and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ it the rod bent good!My dad fought it for a while and Gary knew it was a DD and then my dad felt less tension but a fight! When we reeled it in it was a nice 5+pounder,but a missing bucktail?What????
...it was a double hookup,but we knew it was a pig!
Then the schoolies started hitting more and we caught some here and there but it was at about 7:05pm so we had to leave!Damn...
We all got at least 3 or more fish each so it was good.11 fish in total!
