San Vee closure update

Some info on San Vee closure from another source. I have been going for the past couple of weeks practicing for the El Cajon Ford Team Open on August 11th and 12th. Water is reasonably high and overall fishing for bass is fair. I am not fishing for anything else so I can't tell you how the Bluegill or cats are doing. I would expect very good. It looks to me that the water will last past Sept. 1 but who knows what a government run business will do. I will drop some specifics on the bass fishing after next week.
The city of San Diego is lowering the water level at San Vicente Reservoir to prepare for San Vicente Dam Raise construction. The reservoir will close once the water level drops below the boat launch ramp.

The city has kept the reservoir open as long as possible and has announced it will remain open through Labor Day, September 1, 2008. Both fishing and water contact activities will be allowed that day. The reservoir will close immediately following Labor Day for six to nine years through construction and refill.

The reservoir will reopen to recreation sometime between 2014 and 2017, as soon as the new water level reaches the boat launch. The amount of time needed to refill the reservoir will depend on rainfall and water supply and demand. The Water Authority is working with the city of San Diego to reopen the reservoir to recreation as soon as possible.

Please visit the San Diego City Lakes website for up-to-date information.

San Vicente Dam will be raised 117 feet as part of the Water Authority's Emergency Storage Project and Carryover Storage Project. These projects will help ensure that San Diego County has sufficient water storage in the case of an interruption in imported water supply and will also store surplus water to use during droughts or other times of shortage.

For more information about the construction projects at San Vicente or to sign up to be on the project email list, please visit the Water Authority's Emergency Storage Project website. If you have any questions about the projects, please call the toll-free project information line at (877) 426-2010, or email ESPinfo@sdcwa.org.

Hmmm....I wonder what that means for the SD Teams Night Tournament scheduled there on Sept. 6? Another venue change, I guess.

I'm fishing the 2-day tourney as well--in my buddy's Champion. Say hello if you see me...I'll be probably the only 36 year old dude around--with braces.

IMO they are not closing on Labor day. Water level is too high. They will figure out they can squeeze a few more days out of it. Remember the original plan was to close at the end of last year. We are still launching high on the big ramp. They still have the little ramp to fall back on. I heard that the lake will only be dropped to 90 feet so the poachers will still have a lot of water to hit. Good luck next week Chris. What color is the Champ? I am in a white/silver/black Z-20 with a tall skinny kid (my son) as my partner.

I hope they do stretch it out a few more days/weeks. The schedule changes are tough on me--and my partner. I have limited opportunities to fish these days, so I like to be able to take advantage when I can...

We'll be fishing in a red/silver-gray Champ. If you don't see me, you probably won't miss my fishing partner. Tall guy with a ponytail, also named Chris. You may have seen him around. I think he's done the 2-day deal a few times.

Right back at you to you and your son: Good luck!
