| DVL GUIDE TRIP WITH ART 6-10-2008
Hi everyone,
Today I met my clients, a very nice married couple from Orange County, and we headed out for a beautiful day on the water. We arrived at our first spot, and on Scott's second cast with an underspin, he sets the hook into a nice 3# chunk. The skunk is gone very quickly. As I am helping out his wife Mary, Scott is into another one. Nice start Scott!!
As we were fishing, we noticed that the fog was rolling in very thick. Well we were socked in where we set. I told them we would wait out the fog before we left, and we would just keep fishing. Good choice as they both caught fish during the wait. These fish were caught on the dropshot/Bass Snax combo, and a splitshot/Zipper Worm combo. You have to try this combo, as no one is using this that I know of, and it just flat out raked.
Once the fog left us, we headed out to another favorite point of mine, and right away Scott is on a fish, then a second. Now while I am helping him, Mary screams she has a fish. We turn around just in time to see what is easily a 7# fish jump out of the water. I tell mary to keep her rod tip up, and turn the fish towards the deep water. As I get on the trolling motor to maneuver the boat around, it leaps again. This is a toad!
Mary is doing a great job of fighting her fish, and we just wait it out as she plays it towards the boat. Well as you can guess, the fish makes one more hard charge towards freedom, and it breaks here off on the rocks. You would think Mary would be disappointed, but she was not. She said that was alright because she saw the fish, twice, and she was going to release it anyway. Nice job Mary.
The bite is changing now, so it was not wide open fishing today, but good enough that they said it was there best day ever on the lake. They caught 4 or 5 fish at every one of the spots we fished today. Which was around 5 or 6.
They have their own boat, and they have fished DVL about 8 times with limited luck. We spent a good amount of time talking about structure, water flucuation, habitat, and feeding habits. All in all it was a very good, and informative day. They said they now feel like they can come back and catch fish on their own.
