Here’s a progress report:
Thursday:
I was gonna fish bass outside independence however, the winds were blowing  so kept heading to mammoth. Got checked in at the HOI Express in mammoth and headed up to Twin lakes, the road to upper is closed so I launched out of the middle lake. I kicked under the bridge to the upper twin and had the lake to myself, but the tube started to deflate so I didn’t really get the chance to fish. Headed back to the middle lake and pumped up the tube. Fished for 2 hours and did fairly well, not wfo but consistent I caught one real nice one on a green/black jig (see pic) the pic doesn’t do it justice, it was pushing 3-4+, it took me into the weeds and took some horsing to get it to swim out. I caught several more stockers 13-14 inches and called it a night.
Friday:
Decided to head to Bridgeport to fish upper twin lakes, stopped off at Ken’s and was told to fish the RESV instead. Launched between the public launch and the blue house. Kicked out about 300 yards and fished in 15-20’ of water using Jigs and powerworms. I caught a limit and lost as many. All were 1.5-2lbers nothing special. I did get freight trained but lost it. If I was paying attention I’d miss the bites on the power worms. It wasn’t wfo like I was expecting and sort of wished I had gone up to Twin lakes for some Browns.
The weather was incredible so I wanted to take advantage of the low winds so I headed to the loop. I was planning on fishing Grant, but the water level was WAY LOW, the lowest I’ve ever seen it, sad to see it this low. Decided to ck out some of the other lakes in the loop. Gull has been dead the past two years, but I heard it was picking up this season so I launched out of the gull meadows side. As I was kicking out another tuber was just coming back out, he said it was dead and he’d only caught one.. Well within the first 20’ I almost got spooled, ended up losing the fish after about a 10 minute fight within a few feet of my tube, it was a TOAD. I decided to kick straight out towards the middle of the lack. From that point on it was WFO on power worms (chart, natural, wht), power mouse etc… It got to the point where I couldn’t fish two rods anymore. Ended with approximately quadruple limits in a 2.5 hour time span. Headed to the barn for an hour nap.
Decided to head back to Twin lakes in Mammoth and fish till dark. This time I put the pump in the back of the tube and kicked to the upper lake. Got to the water fall and saw a ton of fish hanging out in reel shallow water right infront of the waterfall. Tossed in a jig and it was on, caught several on a firecracker jig, one of them was a beautiful Brookie. Changed up to a power worm with a clear bobber. I would toss it just infront of the water flowing in and let it float out and BAM GAME ON, it was almost a fish every cast all stocker size except for one Alpers. The red power worm was the hot ticket. Another tuber was fishing the area but wasn’t catching jack so I called him over to where I was. I set him up with the same setup and let him slide into my perfect spot. It went WFO for him, real nice guy, couldn’t believe I was so willing to give up some tackle for free. I told him it’s all about Good Karma!!!! Finished the night back up in the middle lake, Bug city caught one real nice brookie trolling a olive wolly bugger..
I’m heading to Crowley in the morning then more exploring in the afternoon and hopefully some bass in Independence. I’ll report more when I wake up on Sunday.. FYI the weather is absolutely perfect, warm and little to no wind…. Also sorry for the lack of pics, my camera died and it was a B**** trying to take picks with my phone and get the fish back in the water quickly...
