4/27 Ice Fishing is Awesome!

Went up for Trout Opener, caught a few fish here and there and ended up ice fishing at Rock Creek Lake on my last day.

It was a total surprise, I didn't expect the lake to be frozen. Some local guys were cool and let me fish in the holes they'd already drilled. Ended up fishing for 5 hours and probably caught around 30 fish, this being the biggest one. Weighed 2.5 lbs on the digi. Fish were caught on everything from powerworms to real worms. Live bait was the best as usual.

This was the most fun I've had in a long time.

How many people can fish in one hole? These fish don't stand a chance!

I was there on the 26th and it was my first time ice fishing. Action was decent, caught a couple four pounders.

Our group didn't really expect the entire lake to be frozen as well. Last year for the opener we were fishing on the little are that was open and thawed out, caught about 170 fish in about 4 hours. The trout were circling the open water and they would literally hit my legs and swim away.

Caught a nice 3 pound brown in the stream in front of the lodge off a gold Mepps on my first cast

Ice fishing requires drinking. It is a simple thermodynamic equation. Drinking creates heat.

Nice fish..........I was wondering if anyone went to the sierras..Not many reports....Heading up there the 29th of May.......

Awesome bro... that rainbow looked like a stud. How do they fight comin' out of the ice? Never been up there with the lake frozen, I alway concentrate on the stream fish this time of year. Maybe I need to reorganize my priorities....
