A bad day of fishing is still fishing and therefore a perfect day! Married for just over 10 years to an awesome guy and if he behaves himself I might keep him for awhile longer...lol. | SoCal Freshwater Anyone having any luck with the local lakes in Socal? Hodges, Barrett, Sutherland, Otay, Skinner...anything?! I've been out with the race team so often lately I haven't had a chance to get my boat in the water. Last race is this weekend in Primm until Vegas to Reno in August so I need to get into the fish while I have the chance!

Name: Eric Age: 17 Vessel: 13 foot Perception Aquaterra Kayak Location: So Cal Job:Lead Guitarist in Deliverence Bio: I fish bottom when the yellowtail are biting. | Hodges can be good. I caught it 2 weeks ago when it was. There might be some fish still in the bays spawning, but alot of them are just kickin it in the tules and the tops of the trees. Keep your distance with your boat and pitch weightless Senkos.
I got 2 fish off of beds, 2-3 pounders, and 1 roaming 4 pounder near the trees. We did see lots of fish moving.
Hope that helped and post a report after you go if you wouldn't mind.... |

Just found out we have another race MDR King of the Desert this weekend in Plaster City so it looks like I'm still another week out before my lines touch water.
Anyone having any luck with drop shot? Are the lakes very murky or are they clearing up a bit?

The bass are working shad most of the early morning to early afternoon, than retreat and can't be found. There are lots of small males still cruising the shoreline, but they are overfished and sketchy.... A small 1/4 oz X Rap has been working nice near the log boom, just from the boat rental dock. Also, in the mouth of Hidden Bay they have been moving. A deep drop shotted small Bass Assasin might pick em up.
Bluegill are biting!
Word on the street says the river has been good.... i'm going there this weekend. |

The fish are a little lockjaw and out deeper. This hot weather is cooking em! No more spawners (I hiked the whole lake) and really none cruising the shoreline. I managed 3 bites and 2 landed working a half ounce green jig with a Gulp Shrimp trailer.... They are really keying in on rocks.
I originally thought they'd be working shad, but I found no signs and couldn't manage a single nibble or follower with the X Rap or Basstrix....
Good luck, expect it to get tougher, because this heat is stickin! |

Adam won King of the Desert 07 in his 16, but we just ran Plaster again in his new 10 car. I think that was the third race in that car....too many lately to remember. We had oil issues in the 1st lap then finally 2nd lap...dead car. You might have seen our 'train' white chevy towing a black 4 seater that was towing our green 10 car. Adam ran it in Class 1 though in Plaster # 106.

The little males are working between the weeds and the barrier all around the lake working bluegill. There are still some on beds, but don't waste time with them, they are VERY spooky and some one is always flippin a bait on them.
I got 3 smaller bass on a Watermelon Swimming senko. They are keying on bluegill heavily, actually exclusively! |
