SD County Lake - PreSpawn Bass

I went to my 3 year old nieces birthday today held at a SD County Lake. I found beds everywhere with males posted up on them. The females were staging in deeper water. I saw a few 4-5-6-7lbs females. Then a few larger females roled up. The ranger and I talked about them and agreed they were pushing past 10lbs. I've seen some big Calico (and that's my gage), but these bass were BIG and THICK.

Anyway, check your local SD lake. Bass are in the "mood" so you can throw something at them. Not sure if I'm really into bed fishing, but if the "size" is right, it could be worth the time. These photos only represent a few fish out of 8 large females and about 20 - 1-3lbs males. I took the boat ride with the family and made about 5 sight cast. No hits. Just a lot of CoorsLights.

cool pix. bed fishing is a different thing for sure. i don't see a problem as long as the fish is released quickly unharmed in the same place. kinda fun annoying them till they take the bait.

More

There is alot more involved with bed fishing than pissing them off but that can be a part of it...They all have a very different mood and it is kinda fun figuring out what gets em to bite..Working a 10pd+ fish will really get the blood flowin..

Yeah, only gave a few bed fish a shot, white jig. On recon mission, I'll go back with guns.
