Lake Mead 12/7/07 WFO on STRIPERS!!!

Wife and I decided to hit up Vegas for our 4th year anniversary to do a little bit of gambling and fishing.
Friday 12/7 we met up with our guide John from VegasFishing.com a fellow bloodydecks member at 5:30am in the walmart parking lot and off we go to the launch ramps.
Boat in at 6:00am and 30 minutes of rough wet ride to the shad grounds, took no more than 10 minutes to get a tankfull of 2-3 inch shads. 5 minutes ride to a cove and we can see 2 pound schooling stripers boiling under the birds. We immediately got a triple hook up on stripers 1-2 pounds 2 on shads and one on rattle trap. We continue to fish the area for 1 hour loading up on 1-3 pound stripers while the15-25 mph winds kept hammering us. John decided we should anchor up because the winds were picking up, So John took us to some points with fish meter all over the screen and dropped anchor on top of them. We were catching 2-3 pound stripers left and right until it kinda slowed down at 10:00am. After we loaded up on quantities and went searching for quality fish where they dump the trout. 10:30 we anchored up where they dump the trouts and at 10:45 a truck full of trouts were dumped and we waited for the 10-15 pound stripers to show up, we caught 6 stripers 3-5 pounds while waiting for the big boys but none wanted to play. Pulled up anchor and 20 minutes of wet ride back.
John worked really hard to keep us on the fish. He knows this lake from the back of his head. My wife and I had a great time fishing with this man. If you guys ever want to go fishing in lake mead, give John a call and he'll make sure you guys have a great time!!
And yes the fishes are in the bathtub at the hotel, had to drain out all the water thats building up inside the cooler(no drain plug).
40 stripers 2-5 pounds gut and gilled.

You nailed em, John is awesome. But also, you put the fish in the boat. i know John likes it when he puts his clients on fish, and they do their part and catch them. Way to go.

Mr. Hung and his lovely bride were fishing on their wedding anniversary,we battled away through 50 mile wind gusts, and rain squalls, them stripers like it nasty.Hung had da kind on for a ride, but the big one pulled the hook after a couple of hellacious runs.Bigger models are on the bite.

Re: Lake Mead 12/7/07 WFO on STRIPERS!!!

How many BD'ers can say their lady would go out in 50 mph gusts, chop and rain, having been fore-warned and still do it and put fish on the boat. Mrs. Hung is hardcore. Shit, i was supposed to go that day and i passed.

Jim, Fish will bite, but the winter mode is not wfo.Downsize to 8lb test, anchoring, chum, chovies, sardines, squid, and smaller hooks.Of course trolling, casting, with nothing less than 17lb,you never know.
