Quick Crowley trip

Just an afternoon after work. We're thinking 4.5-5 lbs. Nice Female Brown. I've got a pic but can't post it. Fished with my buddy Matt, Chef at The Restaurant at Convict Lake. If you read any of Martin Strelneck's articles in WON, when he talks about Convict, he always mentions Matt Eoff, the Fishing Chef. His boat is on the docks so it's a quick start and a very short run to ths fish as we were getting them no further than Hilton Bay and some nice ones even closer to the marina. Matt got one a little smaller than this one. Both of us got a couple of chunky 3-4 lb Rainbows. All nice fish in about 2 hours of fishing at Crowley trolling the Rapalas. Beautiful afternoon/evening, fished in a flannel shirt till dark.

They're closing the marina on the 31st but we'll be fishing right up until then. Planning on getting up to Bridgeport Reservoir this weekend and probably the two after that 11/3-4 and 10-11. Looks like the high pressure partially responsible for those Santa Ana winds down south is abating and we're in for a bit of a cool down and the highs should be about ten degrees cooler over the weekend, but the wind forecast is workable so we're gonna get after it!

Re: Quick Crowley trip

If somebody's got the time and can send me an email address, at least I've learned how to email pics. I sent it to Bruce and Shelly, too.

Re: Quick Crowley trip

Matt is a cool cat...he has hooked me up with plenty of tips about the lakes and cooks perhaps the best food in the entire region (although the Mobile station is a close second).

I think I'll be in B-port the 9th - 11th lurking around for a nice brown hopefully. I'm trying to finalize plans with a bunch of irresponsible BT Hunters that like to wait until the day before to make decisions.

Greeper - Give me a holler if you are interested in heading up on this weekend.

Where are you fishing up at Bridgeport? Twins or down at the Reservoir?

Re: Quick Crowley trip

I like the 200 yards of creek between the Twin Lakes...yeah right!

We'll be on the dam face early and late, probably hit the EWR and definitely working the shoreline on Upper. We have no boat this time, so it will be all shore stuff.

Hopefully the weather will get snotty, scare a bunch of people off and we'll have it all to ourselves...yeah right!

Re: Quick Crowley trip

For what its' worth, not much love at the Reservoir this last weekend. We fished Saturday morning for nada, not even a Rainbow. Parked it and had a mid morning breakfast and sat around waiting for the afternoon bite to develop. A little wind came up and I went out to check it out. Trolled up to the dam and back and just as I was about to give up and put the motor in neutral, I started to wind in and WHAM, the little F-9 Black and Silver Rapala got inhaled. Great fish, a male Brown with a good hook jaw. About 24" and right around 5-6 pounds. That was it for the weekend. Nothing on Sunday morning.

Something bad is happening up there. A bunch of dead birds on the shoreline. I saw about three dozen dead Pelicans and over a hundred Coots. Don't know who or what is killing those birds, but it can't be good. I got home Sunday afternoon and covered up the boat. Looks like I'm done for the season. Then again, I just might get a wild hair up my ass and give one of the Twins a shot if I can still get the boat in. I'll give them a call and see how the ramps are. I think they close at Upper Twin on Halloween, but I might be able to get on the ramp at the lower lake. Gotta check the weather.

Hey Steve,
Shelly and Bruce said they are bitting at Pyramid Lake, don't you take your boat there? I will be there next week for 3 days of fishing.

Re: Quick Crowley trip

Lower Twin should be no problem with launching...They were opened to the very end last year. Mono Village closes their gates tomorrow, but that only means smaller crowds but more floattubes and canoes (god forbid if the weather comes up when you're in one of those).

That sucks about the resi. It is a weird eco-system there, the water always looks like crap, if you can't find the WR channel then you're in 3 ft of water. Sometimes the fishing has been amazing and sometimes it flat out sucks. My boat broke down on the water a few years back and we decided to drop anchor in the middle of the lake and still fish until my buddies can by. The anchor went down about 7 ft and hit bottom and this was right near the public launch, not back by the airport.

Hopefully we'll do alright this year!

Corky, I'm going to be staying close to home for a while and after my ten day we'll get my buddy's boat up there. He's got a 28' Bayliner with bells and whistles. Especially nice are the heaters and the full canvas/plastic enclosure!. But that won't be until December. Hope to make it up there a few times this season. We'll be out trolling spoons and Flatfish, probably with the downriggers. Good luck up there.
