lake Skinner 9/27/07

Fished a rental skiff with a friend. We ended up with 13 stripers and a catfish about 7-8lbs.It was an early morning bite..This was my 2nd time fishing for stripers..They fight like good size spotted bay bass..They bit the chicken livers on the flyline...?why in the hell would a great fish like this would eat chicken livers?finished the morning with the LMB and got one..we were off the lake by 12:30..

Good Job!
Did you hear about any big stripers being caught?
A few years ago, we used to catch 15-30 lb fish pretty regularly on the fake trout lures.
By the way, I will come by and pick up my painting, I've just been too damn busy...

Nice stripers! My first was in July at Lake Powell. Caught 6 of them using bread!

Re: lake Skinner 9/27/07

when you fish the inlet you need to aim toward the middle of the channel and cast out as far as you can. if you cast too far to the right (toward the little jetty) you will get snagged. cut the head of the anchovy and cut it into thirds. tie up to the bouy line, if you are facing the inlet, on the right side of the current. or push the bouy line in with your trolling motor, throw out your anchor, bringing the end of your anchor line under the bouy line. while baitfishing, throw a big popper every once in a while along the bank on the left side of the inlet, letting the current push your popper under the tree and along the shore. if you do this, you will either catch a bunch of catfish and schoolie stripers or you will get lucky and hook a big fish.

Re: lake Skinner 9/27/07

Hey all. What is up with the shad at Lake SKinner. This time last year they were boiling in the east end (right of ramp1) so crazy the air was filled with seagalls. I would catch 10 a day on topwaters from 6-10am. This year something has happened. I am not seeing shad on my Humminbird 787 finder and the fish are few and far between. Hit the lake 5 times so far in the last 2 months and gotton skunked evertime. Recently hit the inlet on 11/26/2007 and watched a man pull in striper after striper on livers. Another boat pulled in 10 flyfishing so he said. What is the secret. I am removing the anchovie heads and tails and cutting them in halfs or thirds. I am carolina rigging it with a 1-3 foot leader and a 1/2 ounce egg sinker. I have drifted near ramp 2, anchored by the inlet directly in the streem about 50' out from the bouys, and drifted infront of ramp 1. Any pointers for next weekend I dont want to get skunked again.
Thanks.
