Colorado River

Fished the river for a few days and wakeboarded/Tubed but we got there tuesday evening and started fishing right away after unpacking I threw out a couple of carp rods for fun and got 2 then I went float tubing and ended up getting 2 both about 1 pound. The bass were on senkos. On wednesday I was throwing a jig with a brush hog as a trailer I got a 4 a 3 and a 2 got pics of the 4 and 3 just computer stupid and dont know how to post them and I also ended up getting on carp. On thursday I ended up finding a boat ride with 2 other guys and we fished the backwaters lots of hits but only a total of 5 fish for 5 hours of fishing I got one on d-shotting and I also got 2 more carp that day. Friday I went out with my dad and we missed a lot of fish but finally got one on the boat which went 1 pound on a senko. On Friday I also ended up the day with 2 carp and one farmed carp. Saturday was the lastday and I just messed around I ended up with 2 carp and a sunfish my sister also got her first fish which was also a nice 7lb carp. Water level is fairly high and the water at squaw and the backwaters were murky and tons of carp they were everywhere. People were saying fishing was slower than usual cause of water level I did also see a few late spawners but there were probably in the one pound range all in all a fun trip. Fished Matts bluegill and got a follow almost every other cast and got slammed once but I also had no trailer on thinking I should have put one on oh well I will do that when I go back in 3 weeks.

Cool!

Trying to get away for a weekend towards the end of the month and head down there. Water still cold?? Wonder why the back water is so cloudy? Shouldn't be a lot of peole down there yet. Usually this time of year it's so clear you can sight fish. My kids love catching those carp. (goldfish)

the water was in the mid 70's and the water level was really high like up by 2 to 3 feet whil I was there there were very few visable sand bars when usually you can see them this time of the year. I was also surprised I have never seen the river that dirty but I know up river they were doing a lot of cutting for new back waters but I dont think that would be the problem.

When the river is raised to a high level the water will generally be dirty and have a lot of junk in it for a few days. If the backwaters are dirty that will generally be due to flash floods or rain in the area. The carp are spawning now and are very active and up shallow. The bass are pretty much done spawning. Lots of small fish in the water.

More fishing

Mike,

The toon is still a work in progress but is coming along. The only thing that will be original is the aluminum. Been getting the Patrón ready for a run from San Felipe to La Paz late May with a return trip in June. My return trip fisherman bailed the other day so I’m scratching to fill that slot. PV will be in late October or early November. We need to get together for another trip. Next time we’ll do more fishing and less boat ride.
