Met up with Big Steve, and his two friends Mark and Perry on Thursday night at one of the downtown Mexican places; thanks for dinner. They had been fishing the river and were ready for dinner and bed. Saw them again on Firday at the Berkley tent in the parking lot between Culver's and my office.
It was off to Bridgeport at around 3:30 P.M. I had a little drama with the boat trailer and the wheel bearings and buddies/caps but nothing to worry about. We got the boat launched at the Reservoir and got down to renewing an old friendship between me and my friend Mike who moved from Bishop to Gardnerville about ten years ago.
Spent the night in his camper and we were up around 5:00 A.M. on Saturay. We spent a lot of time trolling for only a couple of fish. I got the first two in the morning, one was about 4 lbs. Nothing for the rest of the day until we went out for the evening bite after a dinner of grilled bacon wrapped wahoo steaks and all the fixin's. Mike got both of the evening fish and his were both nice ones 4-4.5 lbs. All we caught were Browns.
Sunday started with us sleeping a little late and we were on the water around 6:45 A.M. I started things off with a nice little two pounder and that was all we caught. Called it a day at 9:30 and headed home.
Outstanding weather; Saturday afternoon into evening was one of the most pleasant times I've ever spent on the water. Light breeze, comfortable temperature and we even caught a couple of fish. We had error free boating the entire weekend; nothing wrong with that!
edit: I forgot to mention I camped next to Don Meier who lives in Mammoth. Don is an accomplished Brown trout fisherman and has decided to share his talents with the public. I've spent many hours trolling alongside Don at Crowley and at Bridgeport Reservoir, and have seen him release many Browns. He's started up a guide service that is rather unique. He calls it CPR Guide Service and of course that stands for Catch - Photo - Release. He's different from most of the guides in that he will specialize in fishing for the Browns and help you figure out how to do it, too. These are trolling trips in Don's own boat and he will supply the gear. If you're wanting a few tips or just want a good trip, give Don a try. Here's his cell phone, (760) 937-0568.

Got to get some pic's going Dude | I didn't even take a camera. I've also got to get a good release net, something big with the rubber netting so we don't hurt these big beautiful fish when we let them go. Soon. What dates do you have in mind? Maybe we can get in a day down at the Reservoir. I'll probably try for an evening bite, my favorite time to get out. Like I said, Mother's Day is my Birthday, too. We'll see how the weather goes.

Rubber net from Cabela's with an opening big enough for a five to six pound Brown. Something like 24" X 36". We catch some nice fish and like to release them unharmed. The smaller ones you can just grab the lure and then release by grabbing the hook with the pliers. These bigger fish thrash around something awful and I worry about getting snagged myself. So with a good sized net, you can keep them contained and leave them in the water while you get them free from the hooks on the Rapalas.

Please contact Shelly and Bruce at Bigfishhappen.com, (Products) they have the best nets for large fish. Check them out, in use at Pyramid lake reports.

Not sure I deserve something that nice; I'm more of a hacker, I'd probably leave it on the deck and step on it and break it.
Besides, I fish from a boat and need something with a really long handle.

I'll remember the weather more than anything. Out on the lake an hour before dark and the sun had been down for quite a while. Wearing a long sleeve shirt, no thermals and no jacket. Nice breeze on the water and we're catching fish. It might get better, but I don't know where.
