What a day this was! My three year old son has been begging me to take him fishing for some time and the schedule and weather finally permitted it. I bought him a small Wal-Mart Pirates of the Carribean rod and reel and after talking with Kevan (Fish-N-Fool), I decided to take Cody to Anglers Lake with a friend of mine and his three year old daughter.
Got to the lake at 0630 and waited in line until it opened. After setting up, Cody was in the water fishing. Kevan walked up just in time to see the boy catch his first ever fish, a small rainbow! Cody was jazzed considering it took him all of two minutes from the time he casted until the fish hit the shore. Things slowed considerably until Kevan caught some nice sized ones and let the kids reel them in. Thanks brother!
Kevan had to leave to tend to things at Noah's but left me two things that made this an unforgetable day. He pointed to a spot to fish and left a bottle of Lemon Lime power bait balls. After that, it was an every cast type day. Funny thing about it was that my rod wasn't getting bit but damn if that Pirates of the Carribean rod wasn't getting nailed every few minutes. It got so fast and furious that the rod had to come out of the water so I could get Cody to eat lunch!
Finally at 2p.m., Cody was out of bait and told me, "Dad, I don't want to catch anymore trout, I want to catch wahoo." I about busted open with pride! Soon son, very soon.... The final count for the day was 6 lightning trout and 5 rainbows for Cody and two lightning trout and three rainbows for my buddy's daughter. Many pictures taken and I will try to post those.
I get home and tell the wife about the day and the lucky Pirates of the Carribean rod. She looks at me with a straight face and says, "See, you don't need to go to the Fred Hall Show and buy another rod and reel for your ten day, just borrow Cody's rod!"

It will be a bitch to get spectra and topshot on that thing!
Kevan, you are the man! You made two Dads look like heroes! It was great meeting you and I look forward to fishing with you again. Can't beat the feeling of watching my boy catch fish after fish and hoping for many more days like this!
