| My first Trout! 12/28/06 Today was a good day, I caught my first Trout! ( I don't consider SARL "catching" and I don't consider those fish "Trout"..But that's just me ) A few friends and I went up to the San Gabriel River fishing. The plan was to arrive early and make hike up to the area where we could catch wild trout, but unfortunately we got there later than expected and opted not to make the hike since a few of us had to be at work later in the day, so we fished lower down the river where the trout are stocked (but still a hell of a lot more fun than SARL!) We started off at about 8am at a spot known to hold ( according to my friend who lives there) The water was super clear except for where the wind hit It was about 50 degrees out and the wind was HOWLING, couldn’t cast (or even keep a hat on our heads) So we packed up and moved to a place which was more sheltered from the wind. Our Windy spot, still nice to look at: All of us were using inline spinners (flies) and only one of us caught fish (2 small trout) Here’s one of his first 2 and his goofy pose Then we went farther up stream and switched to swimmers and the other 2 guys got 2 or 3 a piece. I still had caught nothing and started with my pity party because the wind was blowing my shit all over the place and I was getting tangled on a spinning reel… Go figure, leave it to me to screw it up.:104167739 So...We moved upstream farther. Another nice look: One of the guys then switched to Powerbait and got bit all over the place. So I switched to Powerbait…It was then I caught my FIRST of about 6 “REAL” TROUT! Sadly, my camera died before I could take pictures of all my fish. None of them were trophy sized (all about 10 inches) and yes, I used POWERBAIT…But I was happy none the less. My FIRST TROUT!! ( It was thrashing like crazy, which explain the hold) Pullin in my second According to some asshole BDer, I look super “Asianified” here.… So, it might be a shock, but all the fish were gently put back for another day (or another Asianified person to take) All in all I caught 6 +/- fish and the other guys did about the same, nothing over about 10 inches, fish were in about 3-4 feet of crystal clear water, It was damn cold & blowing wind, I was smiles all day long and I can't wait to get back out there on a less windy day. Oh... and I the stupidity of some people amazes me.... Yet another thing for me to rant about... :cwmdie:

Wow!!!
That looks very nice.
It doesn't get any better than hiking up a stream and catching some fish.
Very cool days outing. |
