| Eagle lake trophy trout
Arrived at Eagle lake Sun (10/13) afternoon with good friends Ted and Suzanah, put the tins in slips ready for Monday's early bite.
0500 Monday morning up and waiting for light. 0600 we're on the lake and heading for the hot spot dodging the boats without lights in the dark. Put my line in the water about 1/2 hour before sunrise and start my troll. Miss a few and finally hook my first Eagle lake trout, it's a small one 16" and is released, I'm looking for the trophy 4 to 6 lbrs. 0800 I hook a good fish that goes areobatic this one is coming 4 feet out of the water. Land him and keep a 20"r although rather thin, 2 lbs 11 oz. fish hard for another 2lb 4oz 18"r. that's my limit and I head in to clean fish and trade lies with Ted & Suzanah. Ted has a 21" 3 lb 5 0z fish and Suzanah a 2 lbr. Tonights dinner. Both of my fish are hens and a deep red like salmon the others are pink.
In the late afternoon we have a herd of does come to the cabin to feed from the apple tree and beg for hand outs. Monday evening a five point buck walks through the front.
Tuesday Ted and I have arranged a trip with Guide Jay Fares to show us his technique of trolling flies and his hot spots for trophy trout. We agree we are looking for large fish not the everyday 2-3 lbrs. Jay tells us fishing this year has been hard, there was a hugh hatch of Tui Chubs and yet the fish are thin and the brine shrimp are not at shrimp island. We fish hard all day for three fish, all released, Learned a lot about the lake and it was interesting fishing with an eighty year old guide.
Wedsday we are out at grey light for limits (2) and back in by noon.
Thursday was skunk day. wind came up about 10 and was blowing 20 -25 mph with 30 mph gusts. I had put T & S on shore to bobber fish the rocks where we had seen a 3 yr old land a 24"r the day before. Fun picking them back up in the wind from the rocks without damaging the prop. wet ride back, reminded me of Chuck and the tin can.
Friday pick up an couple more in the 2+ range. Now have my possesion limit of 4 and am fishing for that elusive 4+lbr.
Sat more of the same trophy hunting.
This was my fist time at Eagle lake, it is large 27,000 acres, but I will be back looking for that elusive 4-6 lbr.
will post pics when I figure it out.

Holy shit how did you get that pic of the buck? Looks like off a game camera. Now that the season is over the buck are back out up north. I'd love to send an arrow into that bad boy.

Picture was taken with hand held digital from 10 feet zoomed in for full frame. Must have known season was over as he only ran about ten yards when flash went off and then came back. Amazing, couldn't get within 50 yards in the mountains. came right up to the cabin.

Sweet trip. Thanks for sharing. I've fished that lake several times. You don't catch a lot of fish but they are usually quality. I've got in-laws in Susanville and try to go up as much as I can. Shot lots of ducks, quail and pheasents up there too.
