| Bishop Area Report 7/3-7/4
Well I guess the money for stocking trout in the Sierra's is being spent by Terminator's dumb ass smoking tent! Took kids on first real fishing trip Fished Rock Creek Lake for 3 dink rainbows did not see anyone with more than 2 fish, next day fished North Lake for 1 rainbow in 3hrs. And no one else with more than 2! What a joke! Not a good way to hook new fisherman to the sport. I hate to say it but fishing in So Cal sucks ass!!! all across the board!

Fishing in SoCal sucks ass ??? Foolish Statement
2. Bishop is not is SoCal nor remotely close to it.
3. Your fault, research what is going on. take kids fishing to an exciting productive setting where they can catch fish. Bluegill, stocked trout pay lake, fish farm, surf fishing, half day fishing etc. My good friend said it best. take them half day fishing, let them grab a chovie out of the tank and play with it, go up to the wheel house for a few minutes. Go in the galley and get a burger and a coke, and some m&m's, or a breakfast burrito. Plenty to do on a half day trip besides dunk and get impatient. The smell of diesel, blood and guts mushed on the decks, harbor seals and sea lions to "be excited about", they dont dislike them yet. Lots of birds to see, lots of fish, possible mammals. Crew to help the kid and an abundance of fish that no lake can match. Thats the way to go i think.
tired of hearing people complain about things that they didnt put thought into. Ive been to Bishop and fished all the lakes during primetime, it can suck at any given time. Weir pond just before south lake is the place to fish, but requires wading, not good for children.
Hey, at least you got out and caught something. Hopefully their trip wasnt ruined by your crappy attitude about Socal fishing in bishop.

Your right, the fishing has been epic the last couple years (what was i thinking) And a 3 hr drive from the valley must be considered Nor Cal my bad! I stick by my comment, fishing inshore, offshore and inland has declined so bad it's sad! Unless you go to a pay lake good point!

Im sure fishing has declined from what it was in the 60-70-80's, but there are still plenty of great freshwater and saltwater fisheries in socal, central cal, NoCal, and the High Desert. Its not easy all the time but limits are possible and many guys are catch and releasing 50 fish in a day, lakes and inshore or offshore. You do have to know what you are doing though, and may require some finesse or at least some fish sense to find them. Not everybody is cut out for finding their own fish. Get a boat, then you can learn how to find fish and become fishy, even if you arent a good stick. Id way rather be fishy than a good stick. My problem is im a pretty good stick but finding my own fish is very new to me, almost three years into it im really getting the hang of finding my own fish, thanks to the help of guys that know alot more than me.
If it makes you feel better, its kind of a transition time in a lot of places right now. It could easily have just been an off stretch of days, it happens. And if you dont know the pattern, it can be pretty brutal. Thats when its probably a good idea to break out snacks and sodas, and point out to the kids how pretty the scenery is, and how fortunate they are to be in such a beautiful place. Take the shoes off and get the feet wet, skip some rocks, maybe a scavenger hunt, i dont know. Catching fish is the bonus. Being on the water or the bank is what matters.
Fishing is fishing, not always catching. We have recently had 50-100 fish days at Lake Mead, but just yesterday i fish it with a good fisherman, we know the lake, we caught 4 fish. We saw hundreds of fish boiling all around us, they werent biting our lures. Fished it again today, better but not great. Fish on spoons, meter solid red, not getting bit, thats fishing.

Its stocked trout. You are complaining that the state has not stocked enough fish for you to go and easily catch on any given day along with hundreds of your closest friends. Ever consider things like weather, fishing pressure, technique?...
Go find a nice creek, hike in a few miles, catch a few fish, have a nice lunch, climb a peak, let the kids wade in the water... much better then putting a lawn chair next to 20 others along the edge of a lake stocked with retarded mutant trout with no tails.
I got hooked at the age of 4 catching 2 or 3 dink bluegills. You don't need a banner day to get a kid excited about fishing. Especially if you set a good example and make it more of an experience instead of just a goal to catch 5 trout per person.
I'm just sayin...

Was there for July 4th weekend also and everyone at the Lode and at Toms was complaining about not catching fish.Ikept on telling them to fish the inlet with clear bobbers and night crawlers, but they didn't believe me untill I had somethign to show for it. The ticket this past weekend was presentation, it seemed every day they wanted a diffrent speed on the retrieve. First day we ennded up with 6 fish not quality but it was fun. On the 4th we limited out for 3 people on good sized rainbows and most of them were natives in the 1-2 lb range with full grown beautiful tails. Set up my sister with the right kind and she was outfishing me and we were having a blast. High fives and WOOOOS everywhere it seemed we were calling eachother for the net every 10 to 15 minutes. She caught the bigest of trip around a 3 lber and I lost 2 really nice quality Rainbows when it spurted into the air like a dolphin. Busted my 4lb test but hey it was a memory i will never forget. When the fish took to the air I just droped my jaw and said FUCK. Thn I remember watching all those fly fishing shows and figuering out why they would always point there rod down when the bruts would jump. I think that the not stocking issue is great because the fish we have been catching are putting up amazing displays of their strength. Stockers are boring and dont tatse as good. Every year Rock Creek amazes me.

The last two hours I spent fishing in the Sierras last year did not suck ass.
On the contrary, I caught and released dozens of brook, Alpers, and brown trout.
Didn't get any small ones though...

RIght now I agree the lower half isn't doing that well but as already beat to death you need to go out and find them. Drive about another 1.5-2 hours farther and it gets even fishier. There are tons of good fishing holes right around Bridgeport you just have to go out and find them like th rest of us. Sorry you had a bad trip but at least you didn't get skunked.
